That is so cool. I love it.

Allow me a hijack.

My partners plane and our UAS:

We fly together once a month or so. The UAS just finished the first Phase of development with mission sensors etc.

The guys in the picture are all MS and PhD students we hired. We use his hangar for support, fly the UAS for the airport.

Sweet!
Why a Luscomb? A great deal or is there something about them that you like?

Porsche-O-Phile 11-05-2017 05:12 PM

Awesome! Congrats!

They are less expensive, light sport, very few ad’s and my dad at 87 is still flying it too, the old guy in the front picture, it’s what he learned on in 1946 they were brand new trainers back then.

You and your dad. What a treasure to have that.

Love the Globe Swift there in the hanger...

Yours?

Wonder why they weren't more popular...
Later ones weren't so underpowered.

Really awesome to see so many pilots on this forum as well - my best friend is finishing up his CFI training as we speak. Such a blast to fly!

You need to clean your windshield.

Love it, becoming a pilot is a bucket list item for me. Time and money, always time and money....

Very cool :).

Can you fly longer distances, or do you do primarily local airport hopping? Whats the range on that thing? 500 miles?

We were doing systems checks with an electronic warfare payload (no kidding) that was developed by one of the big DoD contractors. They are teamed with us on this project.

The payload relies on airflow to cool it when the UAS is flying. They get hot so we keep a blower on them during ground checks. The internal systems cost a bunch more than the flight vehicle!

Nice. My first airplane was an 8E. Lots of fun with that bird. What is the last three of your N number? Wouldn't happen to be 88K would it? My friend owned 88k for years and we flew many hours together with our two Luscombres.

sammyg2 11-07-2017 03:22 PM

Can't afford anything a little newer?

My brother flies for American Air, not me. No way. I don't mind being in the air, but I don't have the desire to pilot.

My best to all you who do.
