Steel Targets From This Past Sunday's Match
We have a black powder muzzle loader match each month and usually a 6 inch square paper target at 25 yards then 3 sets of steel critters to knock over. This month was a bit different with 2 inch round steel swingers at 25 yards, a small (6 inch) black chicken at 35 yards and a multi colored 8 inch duck at 50 yards. The rifles have to have primitive sights and use black powder and patched round balls. 3 shots on each target and I didn't miss any! Second 1st place this year along with a 2nd and a 3rd. The rifle I used was one I put together.

Great stuff. I especially like the 2 inch ones. There's something really satisfying about hitting steel targets.

Yes, I like the cling of the lead ball hitting the steel! Here's a picture along with some left over cones from my racing days. Sure miss that but the hip and leg joints can't take it.
The rifle is a "kit" from Muzzle Loaders Supply Co. with a 50 caliber 42 inch Colerain barrel, shoot .490 pillow ticked, spit lubed round lead balls with 80 grains of Goex FFG real black powder. I added lead to the stock so the rifle is nearly balanced just at the front of the trigger guard. To buy the parts and such is about $800 or so and takes about 3 months to complete mainly due to the barrel channel work and other inletting.
