Name That Tool
My dad used to have a tool that looked like a screwdriver except instead of having phillips- or flat-head blade it had the body and threads of a screw. I've never seen a tool that looks like it since. I've recently found myself in need of such a tool.
Something like this: ![]() Anyone know what this is called?

I use something similar to that to pull oil seals.

The tool you posted a picture of is called a shaft extractor, but it's similar to a packing extractor.

I remember my dad having such a tool when I was a kid and using it to start screw holes whenever I needed to hang something in the barn. Have no idea what it was called or what it was intended to do. Here is on one fleabay. I don't remember ours being that small but maybe...

That is a gimlet. A gimlet is a hand tool for drilling small holes, mainly in wood, without splitting. It was defined in Joseph Gwilt's Architecture (1859) as "a piece of steel of a semi-cylindrical form, hollow on one side, having a cross handle at one end and a worm or screw at the other".

It is a tool issued to IRS agents. They come in sizes from 1/32 to 12 inches in diameter depending on how much they want to screw with you. Past 12 inches they just use a jail cell.
