old truck with a flat head 4 or 6 shorts so likely a 4 banger
some odd duck like a Willy's
because chevy had six's only back then with ohv's
and a ford would have a flat head v8
and mopar had flat head 6

Quite a "project", that is going to be alot of work to get back into shape. It looks mid 40s, maybe Plymouth business coupe, but not sure about the back half missing though.

It almost looks like a bread/milk van of some sort with the opening at the back of the cab.

Probably a Ford, given the transverse leaf springs and torque tube.

That would explain what appears to be a 4 cylinder engine.

You guys are very close, it's a '54 Thames pick up (open box tail gate) or lorry as the Brits would say.

It's soon going to be a hot rod Thames pick-up. It's all he does .

Ford put a flathead 4 in trucks in the early 40s but that ain’t one.

Interesting that your bud has a LHD example, and from the factory firewall, it looks like they spent plenty of effort making RHD and LHD stampings, rather than adapting parts to work with both. Maybe they sold these to lots of European countries?

You know they’d pull it off. Sure it’d take them a hundred years... but where there’s a will there’s a way!
