In the gutter

It's 8 am and I'm on my 3rd beer. Does that make me an alcoholic?

vash 11-29-2017 07:12 AM

thought this was a bowling thread..

but nope..you're good.

RKDinOKC 11-29-2017 07:12 AM

Depends on when you got off work.

vash 11-29-2017 07:12 AM

wait..what kinda of beer?

scottmandue 11-29-2017 07:16 AM

No, not necessarily...

If you are doing it every day it might be a problem.

A friend of mine passed away about a year ago... I went off the deep end... got so drunk my wife dialed 911 (she thought I had a stroke).

My mom passed away two months ago (we were very close) and everyone was on high alert, but I got through without drinking.

Take care of yourself

I was traveling and stopped into dinner for breakfast, it was a hole in the wall with all locals.

Guy walks in and orders a beer, no one blinks.

Waiters tells me "he works night at the power plant."

911 Rod 11-29-2017 07:36 AM

Did you need the beer or want the beer?

Jim Richards 11-29-2017 07:48 AM

Did you also have a donut?

That depends. Normal guidelines say 2 beers a day max for a man. 3 beers every day would be too much.

You don't say how old you are. If you are 80 then this applies. If I knew I was going to live this long I would have drunk more.

If you have to drive 3 beers is too much.

I get hung over on 2 beers so my body tells me. How do you feel the day after 3 beers?

ted 11-29-2017 08:08 AM

8am is a little early, no time to recover from day before. ;)
Try to hydrate with water for the first half of the day...

lose the beer gut and beer tits! :)
switch to Vodka with club soda, no sugar and 0 calories.
In the afternoon I prefer a weak Tito's vodka with tonic at 60 calories.

There isn't sugar or calories in vodka?????

speeder 11-29-2017 08:22 AM

Two guys are at a wake for a young person who died.

"What happened?"

"He drank himself to death."

"Jesus...did he ever try AA?"

"No, he wasn't THAT bad..."

Ba da bump

motion 11-29-2017 08:42 AM

You would be amazed at how much of the world drinks beer for breakfast. I don't think its really too big of a deal. Nothing wrong with having a nice little buzz to start the day off :)

Vodka has no sugar but you are correct it does have a few calories.
Club soda has no calories where a serving of tonic has around 60 calories.
I lost 30lbs on the Vodka afternoon diet last year. ;)

copy and paste

Vodka is considered a lower-calorie libation compared to wine or beer. The more concentrated your vodka is (the higher the proof), the more calories it has in a single shot. The “proof” is a number that refers to the percent of alcohol in the liquor. You can figure out the percent by dividing the proof in half. For example, 100 proof is 50 percent alcohol, while 80 proof is 40 percent alcohol.

The higher the proof, the higher the calorie count (and the bigger effect on your blood alcohol content). For a 1.5-ounce shot of vodka, the number of calories are as follows:

70 proof vodka: 85 calories
80 proof vodka: 96 calories
90 proof vodka: 110 calories
100 proof vodka: 124 calories

I haven't had a drink in prolly six months or so due to health reasons, but it does sound good.

Back in the dark ages just about everyone in Europe drank grog all day long. Even the kids.
it was the only practical way they had to keep from getting sick from contaminated water.
But they were always drunk, hense the dark ages.

Then..... people started drinking coffee and tea.
It was just as safe because it was heated, and it didn't slow people down. In fact it sped htem up and made them more productive.
Renaissance! Yeah!

I bet the people from the dark ages had more fun.

I thought immediately that this thread belonged in PARF with all the political/celebrity accusations.

3 beers isn't a problem at 8 in the morning if you plan on heading to bed at 10.

Or if your camping at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix in the 70's. Now how would I know that?

You nailed it. Just got home from the power plant. Ended up having 4 beers.

HardDrive 11-29-2017 03:12 PM

I used to work 3rd shift. Drinking beer at 8am was common.

If you live a normal life, and you need 3 beers to get going in the morning...yeah, you might want to, ya know, get some help.

Job stress, Divorce stress, depression, sadness, I miss the cheating whore even though I hate what she did to me and the kids. Don't know why I miss her.

Use to, they shut it down and dismantled it. At a combustion turbine plant now.

I know how that feels. Take care.

You were there? I was there each year from 1970 to '74. Warm beer and cold hot dogs for breakfast, waking up to the sound of a Matra or Ferrari screaming down the straight. Went to a visit with a friend at the Ferrari paddock and wasn't allowed in. I didn't look right
It was cold on race morning in 1974. A guy a few camp spaces down got in his car that night to warm up with the engine running and woke up dead. Then Helmut Koenig did his dive into the Armco. That was the last year for me.

You know the beer isn't going to be a solution. No harm in taking a temporary remedy for the way you feel, but you know it can't be permanent. Have beer for breakfast this week. Get busy solving your problems next week.

I was there 75 - 79. Bunch of guys from the fraternity chipped in and rented a motor home every year. Parked it infield at the top of the chicane, first row from the track. We were a brazen bunch, and all walked into the paddocks thru an unmanned gate, and walked around like we owned the place. I've got a whole bunch of 35mm color prints of all the luminaries that I need to find and scan. Rob Walker (R&T) interviewing Colin Chapman, James Hunt, Mario Andretti, etc. With a nice last picture of an angry steward marching our way to eject us and our beers, which gave us away finally.

A930Rocket 11-29-2017 06:06 PM

I asked the same question several years ago. I dropped my son off at swim practice and went to the grocery store at 6:30 am. A guy rode his bike into the store and bought a beer.

Por_sha911 11-29-2017 07:23 PM

Don't ask drunks if you have a drinking problem. Ask a professional counselor.

WPOZZZ 11-29-2017 08:19 PM

I drink by myself at home. I go through a fifth of scotch a week. One of my friends told me I'm an alcoholic. I told her I can stop anytime.

speeder 11-29-2017 11:28 PM

Want another AA joke? :)

A guy is sitting at the bar w his wife, having a beer. He says, "I love you."

Wife says, "is that you or the beer talking?"

He says, "I was talking to the beer."

livi 11-30-2017 01:35 AM

In the words of the late Rodney Dangerfield:

I have joined the AA. I still drink but I use a different name. :D
