Delaware quake shook my house

Amazing how much power is in one these events. Nothing compared to the West Coast but it shook my house. Cant even imagine what it's like to go on for 10 - 20 seconds.

Strange. Didn't hear or feel a thing here in NW Hunterdon. Only saw it on the news tonight.

I'm just NNW of the red balloon and felt mild shaking. Only enough to rattle glasses in the kitchen. Sorry no embed code.

Didn't notice it in NYC today.

Several years back we had one that was centered in VA IIRC and I felt it in my office in NYC.

Remember that one. Was in Salisbury at the time and felt it big time.

That was a 4.1, you get used to it.

We miss them around here. There are small ones in the general region daily. I think the largest one lately was a 3.4. But whereas we used to get shaken gently on a weekly basis for years, we haven't had any for quite a while. I always have bad thoughts of my 10K gallon water thank rolling downhill if we have a strong one.

I don't want to belittle the fact that you had an earthquake. They can be quite frightening if you are not use to them. Around here, a 4.1 is just a reminder of where we live.

We had a 5.3 in Prince William Sound earlier this week, during the work day. No one at work mentioned it. Wife and kids did not either. Over a year ago we had a 7.1 near Homer. That one had the kids in our bedroom at 1 in the morning. We have been fortunate to have felt many, but never had any damage.

i vaguely remember a geology professor telling us that the rock on the east coast is much harder than what is on the west coast. apparently, the east coast feels the affects of a shaker that much more. he mentioned that there are some theories that here in CA, there is might be a cap on how big of a quake we can see..the limits on the east coast are higher.

dunno.

Felt it here in Cape May. It wasn't a shake here more like a wave. It felt like I was sitting on a raft and a few waves went under me. Lasted maybe 5-6 seconds. Felt the VA quake back some years ago. Very similar. First a candle holder began to rattle slightly then the wave like feeling went through.

We lived in Japan for 1978-1980 and 1983-1985. Lots of earthquakes. Most of them very small. My guess is that we had at least 20-30 tremors per year, maybe twice that. Only big ones once or twice.

OK, I was right, probably 2-2.5x my original guess for quakes per year. It did seem like we felt something at least once a week on average.
