I remember seeing one in an ad in the local paper when I was young - always wondered about them. A bit of a mystery like the BAT...

Very nice, and looks a lot like it’s grandmother. The best French sports car ever made for sure...

Always wanted an original, but not one of the Brazilian ones. My dad helped build one as a racecar for a fellow in Kenya when we were there in the late 70s, wanted one ever since. This new version doesn't do anything for me though.

Thread title gave me a flashback to a letter I received from a friend stationed in Japan during the 60's.

"Money can't buy you love, but for a few bucks here you can buy a reasonable facsimile."

damn those are ugly lines..
It's like they looked at the original and said "How can we screw this up and still make it clear where we started out"
it was all round when originally, and then they straightened it out where it shouldn't be.

I think they did an excellent job. Like the new Mustang, it has all the iconic details and proportions of the original with just the right amount of modern touches.

Background: 1985 Just got out of college a year earlier. Off to Copenhagen for an audit. I was the grunt but I still got to go out to dinner with the big boys.

Walking down the restaurant /bar strand with the crew and there was an Alpine parked on a side street. It was blue and new.

I was in awe. I have pics buried somewhere. It's the grandmother, for sure.

I watched a bit of the video, all my thoughts about it looking fat and frumpy dissolved when it did that hairpin turn.

It looks great while moving.

Just don't stare at the pictures too long or compare it to the original.

I want to see one in person now.

EDIT:
I finished watching the video, the review was quite taken by this car.

Quote:
There’s a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that makes 249bhp and drives through a dual-clutch automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. But why no manual? Two reasons. First, there wasn’t the money to do one, and second, there was no guarantee anyone would buy one anyway. So they spent the money making the Getrag DCT better than it is in, say, a Renault Sport Clio. It has wet clutches rather than dry ones, to improve refinement and response. As well as a relatively clean centre console, then, there are paddles fixed to steering column in an interior that is, compared with a Porsche 718 Cayman, for example, what, exactly?
So, it's a paddle shifter?

http://www.getrag.com/en/products/powershift/Dual_Clutch_Transmissions.html
Quote:
GETRAG Dual-Clutch Transmissions

Two transmissions in one

Dual-clutch transmissions consist of two sub-transmissions: while driving in one gear in the active sub-transmission, the system has already preselected the new target gear in the passive sub-transmission. When the software signals a gear change, the clutch of the passive sub-transmission closes while the clutch of the active sub-transmission is opened. As the two clutches overlap, there is no torque interruption.

Compared to conventional automotive transmissions with torque converters, dual-clutch transmissions are about 5 % more economical – and more than 20 % in some driving cycles and vehicles. Low fuel consumption is just one of the benefits: the GETRAG dual-clutch transmissions provide great driving comfort, yet offer a great deal of fun, for example with special functions such as race start.

There is a shop in my town that restores and sells cool old cars, mostly English. On any given day I will drive by and see an old Jag, Mini, Morgan in the showroom. They had one of the originals Alpine's for a while. I never stopped to look at it because I knew it was way over my budget.
