A mustang I could live with

But I'm sure when it goes up for sale my checkbook couldn't live with the purchase:

Shame about the lack of the third pedal.

911boost 12-12-2017 03:32 PM

That is the first thing I noticed too.....

BeyGon 12-12-2017 03:35 PM

Is that back end, deck lid/air dam stock? I don't remember that look.

pwd72s 12-12-2017 03:46 PM

Anything Shelby did is considered collectable these days. Just my personal preference, but the "bulked up" early 'Stangs just don't please my eye the way the '65-'66 fastbacks do. Evidently, they were designed larger to make it easier to install the 428 & 429 engines...

scottmandue 12-12-2017 04:22 PM

Yeah, a shame about the sluhbox, but I'm guessing it still hauls some serious a$$. :D

No idea about the rear deck... maybe a Shelby addition?

Borders Reivers 12-12-2017 05:06 PM

Rear spoiler is standard 1967/1968 Shelby GT350/GT500 as are rear roof vents and side scoops. Hood says it's a 1968.

If it's real.

One of my drinking buddies in high school had one. We drank a lot of Boone's Farm in that thing.

Side marker lights were mandated in '68. None in '67.

Air conditioning was tight squeeze in an already tight engine compartment. I was the A/C guy for Vetta Venturas and Shelby Dallas products. Worked out of Tom Johnson's shop Performance Incorporated a mile from Carroll Shelby Sports Cars at 5611 Yale Blvd. Learned auto air working at John E. Mitchell Co. that made Mark IV aftermarket auto air-conditioners. Worked in Adapter Kit department designing/installing brackets, belts, pulleys, hoses and hardware for compressor and evaporator units. That particular car is a Cali built car and looks to be factory A/C.

scottmandue 12-13-2017 07:55 AM

I have not seen a lot of these but I don't remember seeing the chrome "shelby" on the hood, were steel wheels standard on these cars?

fast_e_man 12-13-2017 08:34 AM

The spacing and shape of the driving lights, the Shelby lettering on the nose, wood trim interior, side markers, etc. all point to '68. Engine looks too big to be the 302. The GT500KR should have the Cobra Jet badges on the front fenders. So, Guessing it is a GT500 with the 428 Police Interceptor engine.

fast_e_man 12-13-2017 08:44 AM

It's probably authentic. The Shelby ID tag & cut out on the left front fender looks the same age as everything else under the hood. The instrument cluster is the Shelby version; tach is the 8k version & speedo goes to 140.

Jim Bremner 12-13-2017 10:03 AM

It's a real '68 Shelby.

The guy who posted the pictures called it a GT500KR, but I know nothing about it or if the guy who posted it just found the story/pictures on the internet and reposted.
