Good lord.
I have "chased" a number of submarines when I was in the Navy. The ARA San Juan (S-42) is a diesel-electric sub that, if the CO can take a healthy dump, would never be found by a single helo or ship. Never. I did a number of "Pass-exes" with the Australian diesel-electric subs. They were ass kicking machines and we had a bunch of assets arrayed against them. As a comparison, Russian nukes made more noise than Dipso, as easy to track as a neighborhood bully. Diesel-electric subs are like Rikao, quiet and unassuming until they get tired of being that. Also, the only time we ever tracked US subs was during exercises when they had to help us find them. The CO of the San Juan made a mistake without connection to some British helo or ship practicing Helen Keller ASW. |
I’ve been hearing too many theories with not enough personal knowledge to judge.
Underfunded Argentine navy. Undertrained crew Deferred repairs A recent overhaul that involved cutting the boat in half. The last message was about battery problems. They should have limped home on the surface. But thta’s a serious hit to any sub captain’s ego. When I was little I saw a documentary about Momsen and sub disasters. Gave me nightmares. |
It sounds like the Argentine government is looking to blame anyone or anything ELSE but themselves and their Navy. If the British helo really wanted to cause harm, it is an act of war as I understand. It would come out like the last war, but it is expensive and messy. No up side to the Brits.

Something about a screen door ....
PS please excuse my attempt at humor in the light of an apparent tragedy. Or not. |
By they way, I know a few guys overseas. And it is frowned upon if they were to text their wives real time operational details. So WTF?

And one helo against a diesel-electric sub causing anything other than a yawn on the sub is goofy. |

I can't say for certain about what happen to the sub, of course, but keep in mind that Daily Mail is THE definition of tabloid journalism. Fake News!

It's just a rumour that was spread around town.
Somebody said that someone got filled in For saying that people get killed in The result of this shipbuilding. With all the will in the world Diving for dear life... |
No jokes please.
I was on board a sub for over 5 yrs. It is hazardous duty. You might not get shot at like the army or marines in the middle east, but the risk you take for your country is real. So many things can go wrong. On a sub you live in the top 1% of the ocean, the lower 99% can kill you. I hurt for that crew. |
