Loved those cars as a teen....still do :)!

Buy it. I bought back my 1970 3 years ago, and have been slowly rebuilding it into a no holds barred, no nannies DE car. One day it will run.

Had a blue 73 240Z with headers, SU carbs and manual trans. Stripped it to bare metal and had it painted. Looked awesome.
That's another one I wish I had back. Lots of fun with that car. Sold it to neighbors kid and he totaled within 3 months. I told him to be careful... |
I hope it is your old one. Keep us posted! It looks sharp!

I remember the sounds and smells of my Zs. The black 78 280Z I had, I had installed a 2.5" mandrel bent pipes, with a turbo muffler....it sounded so good except for 2000 RPM drone.

Or not :) Never been in a 240 (drool).... how did the 240/260/280Z' s compare? It was all downhill when the ZX's appeared on the scene imo... |
no call back last night. fingers crossed for today.

The 1970-1978 240/260/280 Zs all had basically the same body style, but through safety improvements, more available options, and fuel electronic injection, they gained weight with each version. This is why they increased the bore from 2.4L-2.6L-2.8L to maintain much the same performance even with the weight.
I took a really nice 1981 280ZX blue/silver on my honeymoon in 1988, it was a very smooth, almost luxurious sport GT, while my 1971 240Z was a visceral experience, almost raw, sports car. |
I had a '72 back in the day.... (pic from mid 80's college/summer job helping to build a car wash)
I used to autocross it.... It was a blast. Sold it for next to nothing due to cancer. Wish I had kept it as I now have the skills to fix it right. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1513620220.jpg |
Just talked with the owner. He bought it at an auction to flip. Knows nothing about the car. Mechanic had to clean the gas tank to get it running. He's texting me a video. Hoping to see it in the next few days.
Auction house told him the wheels were worth $1200 each. Yup. |

My uncle had the same 240z in orange. What a great car it was! I recall riding on the transmission hump when I was about 4 years old. I got to shift it while he operated the clutch. His girlfriend rode shotgun and my brother was on the package shelf. It’s a miracle we survived unrestrained, lol... but the fond memory of that experience sticks with me. SmileWavy

A good buddy of mine who also autocrosses a 77 280Z, originally bought a 1972 Orange 240Z with plaid cloth seats from the Okinawa Japan dealership when he was in the army stationed over there. He still owns it, drives it, and shows it.
It's a small world !......At one show, he met a guy he had never met before, who also bought an orange 1972 240Z from the same dealership when he was in the army. It turns out that the second guy was the same job classification as my buddy, and actually replaced him, when my buddie's time was up, but never met each other. |

Update on the car. I kept in contact with the seller through the holidays. It was crazy cold then and continued to be but the real reason I, and no one else, wasn't able to look at it was his wife was in the hospital. I've been meaning to call back but super busy, and wanted to be respectful of a difficult time. Just did and the car may be sold to someone who called before I did and followed up and saw it last weekend. That said, he is supposed to call me on Friday to set up a time for me to see the car on Saturday. I let him know it might be my car and that's why I'm so eager for it.
We will see. |
I had a 71 240Z and put 150,000 miles on it after I bought it. Loved that car and the fun of driving it through the turns was a blast.

seller just texted me, he has a lot going on and is thinking of holding onto the car. He's talked about his wife but reading between the lines from last call, the guy who was "first" had said the price was really good and is a flipper himself. My sense is someone who buys a car to flip it is told it's worth more is the kind of guy who would hold it and sell it in the spring for $15K. Who knows, he said he'll call me when he decides.
Thing is, looking at bring a trailer prices, $10K for this car is about right. |
What a weasel. If he calls in the spring, I wouldn't take the call.
A lot going on, my ass. |
I'm more pissed off than I thought I'd be.
