A friend found this last week
From a fuel stop conversation, If you know what I mean, like " I see ya like old cars
there sonny" I got a ********** in my garage at home" They went to his shop, expecting to find a junker, then he shows 'em this. Made his day. I don't want to give away too much on this one.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1513542145.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1513542163.jpg |
Nice Hertz rent a racer
|
Nope, don't think that was ever rented by Hertz. A hole-eee-sheet car to Mustang collectors. Shelby...
(edit) I have no interest in being in the collector car world, but that's very nice indeed. |
One doesn't need to be a collector to love beauty and appreciate value when it's found. That bad boy is the perfect fusion of form and function. The Monet's Flowers of the motoring world. And all the more rare and radiant for being in a regular driver's garage and not hidden away in a collection of masterpieces that never see the light of day or dirt on the road.

Hertz rented Shelby’s with that paint scheme, not sure if they did it on the later Shelby’s though.

Interesting choice of intake. 3x2 carb setup from 1962-1963 390-406 ci "M-Code" Thunderbird and Galaxie. Not an original standard intake used on Shelby GT500 but Shelby did a number of one-off's so you won't know without documentation. I've seen 1x4, 2x4 and Webers (and Paxton/McCullough superchargers) but never 3x2.
ETA Looks like correct "Cobra Le Mans" valve covers. |

The ‘66 GT350H was what you could rent at Hertz, I poked around and couldn’t find anything on later ashelby’s being available.
|
the last ''shelby's'' were sticker cars totally build by ford in a ford factory on the line in the 70's
|
Yes...just '66 (around half the Shelbys built that year went to Hertz)...more than the entire batch of '65s. That car has the most popular Hertz colors...but is a 68 or later (note the side markers that came on U.S. cars starting in '68).
They stopped because Hertz found that too many were being tracked...of having their engines or other performance parts swapped out for standard 289s/parts by renters. |

Most likely an FE 427, with some sort of aftermarket intake setup....way cool, and definately a conversation piece. |
