Seats are in... Still need to put carpet in bow and waiting on new stainless cup holders... Couple days and this thing might have to get wet!

Wow...nice work!

Boat is basically done, but I decided to freshen up my roadworthy trailer before taking the boat off the old junk trailer..... Another project.

I started by removing nearly all components then scuff sanded entire trailer. Got some new replacement wobble rollers and then decided I should order four new Aluminum wheels/tires. I also am replacing the complete brake assemblies because at $100 for a pair, it isn't worth buying new wheel cylinders and shoes. I painted the trailer primarily with a 4" roller using gloss black "tractor/equipment" paint with some hardener added. The tighter more complex areas just got shot with a rattle can. It came out nice with no brush/roller marks. I then "painted" the plastic fenders with PlastiDip.

Now the trailer will match my black Tundra. I store the boat/trailer inside, so this thing will last forever and remain looking nice. The wheels show up today and the brake parts come tomorrow. I also found some new Shoreland'r decals that will go on tonight. Plan on using the boat the first time on Sunday!

I like your style, Tim.
Nice work on the boat and the trailer.

I don't seem to have time to do anything these days or the money to do things with!!!

Tim Hancock 06-15-2018 09:16 AM

Trailer is basically done (still have to fit front mini bunks and rear side guide bunks once boat is on it). Boat gets tested in the pond this afternoon and then goes on trailer tonight. Headed to the river with it on Sunday.

Wow. Doesn't look like it was painted with a brush. So smoooooth and glossy!
And did you buy new decals or just tape them off? That big one on the side rail looks pretty cool, monochromatic with a white drop shadow!

(I think you do more before breakfast than most of us (ok, me) do in a 12 hour day....)

Tim Hancock 06-18-2018 10:48 AM

Great day on the water finally.... Boat and trailer performed flawlessly. Took all the kids (including two newborn grandkids) out for father's day. I think my daughters were nervous at first that the boat might sink with their babies aboard, but we had no issues.

Built a swim platform out of 2" aluminum tubing and 3/4 King Starboard for the top. It took me longer than I had hoped but got it done just in time to head to the lake for the 4th. Grandkids made good use of it as did all of the adults. Still need to adjust the angle up slightly so it is level when on the water. Might route grooves in it for additional traction or might just cover it with seadek mat. Probably will order one more telescopic ladder for the other side.

Bent tubing with an old pipe bender
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1530814916.jpg

Made 6 saddle joint brackets with 2" plastic cut with a 2" hole saw. For good measure, I reinforced hull kick outs with about 1/4" additional fiberglass and 1/2 ply backer plates epoxied to the new cloth.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1530814916.jpg

Made 2 lower transom brackets out of a piece of 1 x 2 x 1/8 stainless rectangular tubing. Used some race car aluminum swedged tubes with heim joints to brace to lower transom
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1530814916.jpg

Installed all brackets after epoxying holes then assembling with "satan's glue" aka 3M 5200.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1530814916.jpg

Made a pattern then cut out 3/4" plastic deck and then routed the to edges. Installed deck and mounted new swim ladder.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1530815630.jpg

I think it came out pretty good for about $350 in materials.

You are an excellent fabricator! Enjoyed following your build. Thanks.

Am I the only one that thought the "before" trailer was go to go:D

You are amazing, Tim.

Tim Hancock 07-05-2018 01:04 PM

Thanks for the compliments... So today sitting at work I decided that until I build a wake tower, I am going to need to find a better storage solution for a couple more skis, a wakeboard and a kneeboard. Thinking of building some sort of rack system under the engine compartment or on the gunnels.... Off to take some measurements....

strath44 07-06-2018 04:48 AM

great little read - excellent project, the boat looks fantastic, brilliant work & fabricating skills!

Don't forget the overhead, downward facing speakers, and forward/rearward facing lights for night cruising on the ski tower....maybe incooperate a bimini top ?

Boat already has speakers but I rarely listen to them.... Not into the loud thumping boat thing lol. I could see lights coming in handy for docking though. Would definitely incorporate a bimini along with storage racks on the side for kneeboard and wakeboard and a platform on top for the grandkid's tube.

I sometimes follow threads without making a comment...

With Tim's, I always hear a beautiful violin playing in the background. Your projects are inspiring....nicely done...once again ;)!

onewhippedpuppy 07-09-2018 04:59 AM

Awesome work as always Tim! Might I suggest you move directly to the wake tower instead of an intermediate solution? Even if you don't wakeboard it's nice to pull from, even with tubes and kneeboards it's nicer than using the rear tow point. It also opens up a lot more options for a nice bimini top.

drcoastline 07-09-2018 07:02 AM

Most excellent work. That boat is better than when it was new. Safe boating and enjoy your time on the water. Well deserved.

edgemar 07-09-2018 09:17 AM

Thanks for sharing your project. I'm always looking forward to your next post!

We are leaving for week at the Lake on Weds.... I have run out of time in regard to storage. I will likely end up with a tower eventually. I like the Monster MTK style but would probably build it myself. If I go with that style, I will need to do some serious gunnel reinforcement.

Here is an MTK for reference.... I would make/mount it a tad lower.

Consider the height carefully, it's super annoying to have to duck your tower or have a bimini top so low that you can't stand up!

tevake 07-09-2018 12:54 PM

Nice pics of your family outing Tim, big smiles all around.
It sure is spacious in your boat, especially with the bow lounge, great for lots of friends and family.
Good reward for your work!

Cheers Richard

I just lowered my current bimini as it was way too high. I now have about 4" of clearance when I walk under the front bow. My tower someday will be similar. I hate the extremely tall towers and will never have any wakeboarders who will care that it is not so tall.

Agreed, they look goofy unless you have a really big boat.

Did a quicky restoration of my 40+ year old water skis I learned to ski on back in the day. My 5 year old grandson is starting to get the hang of it. Boat was in the water for 7 days on our trip to a rented lake house in Indiana a couple weeks ago and it performed flawlessly without even a drop of water in the bilge. The swim platform was a big hit with every one and was used often.

Finally got around to adding a foam pad to the swim deck.... I really like it as I had slipped and fell a couple of times on the slippery "Starboard" plastic material last summer. Bought the pad last summer on Ebay... It went on nicely and seems to be well adhered. It has great traction.

Will be at Lake James in a rented house again for family vacation next week... Boat needs to be buffed and waxed again....ugh

That swim platform is great. Time on the lake is so relaxing.

Tim Hancock 08-21-2019 04:39 PM

Boat performed well again last week at Lake James for our family vacation. New foam fake teak pad on the swim platform was a welcome feature. Spent 7 days there at a rented house with dock space for both my Larson and daughter's "new" used Glastron. Bought a swim mat for the grandkids and they really enjoyed it at the sandbar every day. Only issue was that my wife hit something and broke my prop one day. Luckily I had a spare with me so no big deal changing it out at the sandbar.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1566433342.jpg

Tim I did the exact same thing on my swim platform and walkthrough with teak look Seadek, worth every penny.

53 hell, I got underwear older than that!
Well they aren't really underwear anymore, mostly just the elastic bands with some material hanging down. Kinda like hula skirts. But they're still good .......
uh oh TMI, never mind. Nice boat.

PS that's cool how yer toupee stays on in the water, I'd never have the guts to try that. ;)

sammyg2 08-22-2019 12:48 PM

BTW I prolly ripped that off from some comedian, you can get away with that when you get a little older.

Nice boat

That pic was 20 lbs ago pre covid... I am back on my 1200-1500 calorie diet again now so hopefully by boating season I won't be a fatso again. Lol.

Trying to stay as young/fit as possible for as long as I can but it is tougher at 54 than it was at 50.

Superman 01-26-2021 04:31 PM

Tim, if you ever want to sell any of your toys, tools, vehicles, etc., just let us know. A used boat from Tim Hancock is like buying a new one, only it'd be cheaper and higher quality. We tip our collective hat, Sir.
