Also, Shoveler is worst name ever for a shiphttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1513624548.jpg

With this ship drawing 8.0 Meters (27 ft) and poor camera work (me) it looks much smaller than it really is. Perhaps more later

Neither ship is an official "ice breaker", aren't those usually Coast gaurd ? How much thickness ice can a standard freighter break through without damage ?

^^^Going rather slowly, and using bow/stern thrusters to clear ice from the dock to prevent pinching it.

Shoveler looks pretty ratty. Could use a paint job.:(

There were only two ships pictured. Several images of the freighter Shoveler and the Sir William.

"CCGS Sir William Alexander[a] is a Martha L. Black-class light icebreaker. "

Best

First ship is an icebreaker and it is coast guard. Ice breakers have rounded bows and they work by riding up on top of the ice and then breaking the ice with their weight.

If the pics are in order, it looks like he's pivoting off the Port side anchor to ease up to the pier.
