Ever buy an alternate brand of laser printer cartridge?

We have an HP Laserjet P1102w and we don't have any Cartridge World stores in town anymore. They used to be our go-to for replacing the cartridge.

So I checked Amazon just to see what's out there. Here are the top rated cartridges.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_72_0?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Acartridge+world+toner+cartridge+h p+laserjet+p1102w%2Cp_72%3A2661618011&keywords=cartridge+world+toner+cartridge+hp+laserj et+p1102w&ie=UTF8&qid=1513822799&rnid=2661617011

Reading the customer reviews, it's a mixed bag and sometimes I wonder if the reviews that are 1 -3 stars are legit, or just a competing brand negging for business.

And some of the reviews like the ones that claim the cartridge broke when the user was trying to install it make me wonder if the person was merely clumsy and they're blaming the manufacturer.

Anyway, have any of you had any success with Office World, Skia, Ninestar, or Freshworld?

I'm guessing all of these are refilled HP cartridges, right?

I don't know about alternate laserjet printer cartridges, but I used to buy aftermarket inkjet cartridges and they cost about 1/4 of the name brand ones. But, they would dry up if not used regularly and I would only get maybe 40-50 pages out of them. i stated buying the manufactures cartridges and not only do they not dry out, I get @ 250 pages. i order online.
I'm sure this helped you out not at all.

For inkjet, I had several bad experiences with alternate brands. Some shipped empty, some only printed just a few pages. Went back to the HP brand.

Got sick of it all, so Santa has a new wireless printer that uses toner under the tree.

I decided to try a set of rebuilt (versus simply refilled) HP color laser cartridges that were offered on ebay for about an eighth of the cost of new HP replacements. Of course, HP warns that using anything but brand new HP brand cartridges will result in poor quality printing and the printer's inability to detect and report toner levels - not to mention the distinct possibility, or even likelihood of grenading your printer entirely.

I can't speak to all ebay vendors of these products, but this one's cartridges have performed absolutely flawlessly for over a year and thousands of pages.

Been buying Linkyo toner from amazon. No Problems, decent reviews.

No more inkjets.

Switched to all brother (B&W) and Dell (color) .... both have inexpensive toner replacements.

I bought some off of a refiller on ebay. They cost 50% of the price of new ones and lasted 10% as long.

I used to refill my own. Cost WAY less. Just purchased the correct toner and fill in the same hole that the factory used. then a sticker over the hole. The cartridge usually went 2-3 fill ups before wearing out. I'm no longer in real estate so I don't need a printer but it used to save a lot of money.

Toner.

The only way I roll.

I can get a set off all 4 colors for my HP for $100 and they last 100x's longer than any inkjet I've ever used.

Hmmm... that link doesn't work today.

With a HP Laserjet P1102w printer, I'm only looking for cartridges with black toner.

Most of the ones with higher ratings claimed 1600 copies if coverage was 5%, which is about normal for a sheet of text, which is 95% of what we print.

And that's the same # of copies claimed by HP for their 85A cartridge.
