Picked these up at HF today..

New optima battery. I wonder if these are safe to use.. Before I hook it up..

Any advice on these?

No experience with those.

But I've been using this cheapo Schumacher battery charger on my bikes for the past several years. It charges up to about 14.7 volts, before it floats back down to about 13.4-13.7 volts. I definitely notice a difference in longevity of the batteries that get this charger (compared to the other Yuasa one I have). Normally about $27, but on sale for $22 right now.

OTOH, my FIL has an extensive car collection. A while back a charger or battery (it was never conclusive) went up in smoke. Took two years of professional restoration work to make things right.

Opposite of HF, but my Optima 400 works great.

I used the one with the green label.....can’t recall brand at 4am as I sit on the toilet rushing to get ready for hunting BUT I do recall the Harbor Freight Rule: if it plugs in or takes gas buy it somewhere else.

I have a few cars 3 of them sit a lot so they stay on tenders. I ONLY will use the name brand Battery Tender Well worth the $43 in my honest opinion.

There have been cases of knock off brands setting fires and roasting cars electrical systems. I am not taking that change to save a few $$.

Those are what I've always used on batteries...even three boat Optimas, but I use an Xtreme on the 911 Optima...

Don't go cheap imo....not worth the risk.

I have the battery tender jr. on my optimas. $25 and seem to work well.

Had a friend that was at HF and they had the battery chargers on sale. He bought several and handed them out. Out of I think 5 only 2 worked. One of his and mine, I didn't wan't to say anything to him but I'm scared to use it. So I just use it in an emergency and I can be in visual contact with it like something out of a vehicle.

I use the BT and Shumacher brands on trickle/float chargers and never an issue. Both about five years old.

I use the wheeled Shumacher otherwise.

As said if it plugs in or uses gas - pass

I'v got a garage full of stuff from HF I've bought over the years and the only thing I ever regretted buying was a POS 120 volt mig welder. Never could get that thing to work right.
Since i'm obviously the luckiest man on the planet, I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket.


I spent $70 yesterday, saved another $35 with the coupons.
One of the things i bought was a small air compressor that plugs into a 12 volt outlet like a cigarette lighter. I tried it out, works fine. It's going in the trunk of my son's car while he's at college, just in case.
I paid $6.

Hung one of these in the garage last weekend. 1/2" x 50' for $49




I bought this a couple weeks ago for $39, used it again yesterday. Wish i had one of these years ago, works great.
But i'm just lucky.

I'd buy that electric impact for 39, and some of the hammer drills are really great. I have a 2HP air compressor I have tried to kill. I can't. Went through a couple of really expensive name brand units before that.

I had a Deltran Battery Tender go on me. Everything is a crapshoot, depending on where you fall in the statistics. HF is crawling up the quality ladder, just like the Japanese did in the 50s and 60s.

I've had that electric impact for years and no complaints, it works as advertised.

The best HF electric tool I've ever had is the big 1/2" D-handled VSR drill which I paid $30+ or so 7-8 years ago. I've used it to mix enough thinset and grout to lay over 1200 ft2 of floor tile. That drill is a beast and still going strong.

Impact wrench -
Pay close attention to the screws that hold the front half to the back half.
Over time due to vibration they loosen up.
If not caught in time the holes on the plastic back half become too loose and you either have to use an over size screw and risk splitting the housing or throw it in the parts bin. I ruined two of them before I caught on so learn from my mistakes.
It is in fact a good impact just keep the snout screws tight. I check after every few uses. Last time they were on sale I bought another for a spare. I mean at that price you really cant go wrong.
Does lock tite work on plastic????????????????????

I’ve got a Sears electric impact wrench I got in about 1992. Still going strong with a ton of work over the years.

I managed to break a lot of stuff with it before I bought a SnapOn torque wrench. Another good investment.
