Moderator pay has slipped below the industry standard....

Moderators don't seem to be as responsive and proactive as they once were.

Still a good place to hang out and for the most part a bunch of good people here.

On one of the other places I visit, I saw someone with the username of "Dipso". I don't think he has been banned but haven't seen the username here for a while.

The br character has posted some really racist garbage and is a troll of the worst order. There was a post that will allow you to identify the fellow unless he was lying.

IMO active moderation is a good thing. I visit several forums and the ones that allow frequent personal attacks or serial trolling are simply not worth my time.

I'm on a gun chat board where people are as nice and down to business as possible because the site admin. bans people for getting out of line one time. The slightest personal insult or tom foolery results in an instant and permanent ban, no warning given. I think everyone on my ignore list here would have made it to one post on that site.

Not trying to insult you our say anything that would incite a flame war and get me sent from frigid Ohio to a warm island, but "Tomfoolery" is one word. Just sayin'.

The teachers and students thread had me shaking my head like PARF does sometimes. I tend to walk away, and not post rather than being part of the fray.

I get temp bans on steel soldiers all the time.
Pelican is refreshing as it allows the yahoos and dumb ****s duel it out, and apologize in a separate thread. then that one goes to ****. It's entertaining.

If you think a post is out of line use report post.

Otherwise it might not be noticed.

OTPR can be a little brutal. Don't like it, don't post. Bans for 'mah feelz' are for sissy liberal forums. I like the lack of censorship. Letting the boys be boys never hurt anything.

BS...start posting blatant racist comments, threatening other members, or otherwise stepping over the "line", and I'm gonna speak up....or just go away, but I will not hang around for very long :(

The problem is that folks believe so strongly regarding what they post that both sides of any given argument expect the moderator to side with them on the issue and prevent the free discussion of many important ideas. Some consider any positive mention of religion as proselytizing while others consider the posts attacking religion blasphemous (or at least in poor taste). Similarly, any critique of the last President was considered by many as racist while the same do not hesitate to make remarks about the current President. If one does not like a particular PARF thread/topic, they may simply avoid it.

What I do not appreciate are those who really do not make any real attempt to discuss the issues in PARF and simply use it almost solely a place to make jokes/insults about others. While it was briefly funny, it pretty much ends the discussion on important issues. One would expect that to happen occasionally, like all things, some seem to take it to excess IMHO. Any joke told 100 times a day loses any potential humor quickly.

Similarly, threats or challenges to "meet up" are silly. Any adult who actually wants to "meet up" with someone from the internet for fisticuffs is out of their mind. Not only are you risking everything you have including your freedom, you have documented your attempt to do so.

Those of you who complain about PARF here should simply stay out of PARF and stop trying to ruin it for those who do enjoy it. Similarly, those of you who constantly post unflattering remarks in OT about PARF and folks who post there...maybe you should stop posting there yourself as you just may be part of the problem. Coming to OT and pretending like you are above the PARF posters (when you constantly post there yourself) makes it seem that you are just butt hurt because you so rarely hold your own in the discourse/debate there. Perhaps you should simply strengthen your argument and read a book or two before posting so you don't fare so poorly.

Personally, I come to Pelican and bring my business here because Wayne provides forum for free speech. Those of you who say you take your business elsewhere because he does so makes me wonder why. Especially since he generally does not take sides on issues.
