broken LS engine bearing buying lottery ticket

I was stuck in stop-go traffic in November and my low oil pressure warning and gauge went to zero. The engine sounded fine so I thought it was a sender issue. If I left the engine idle at 1000 rpm I would have oil pressure.
The cause was a broken main bearing. I was lucky no other damage to the engine.
I had the bearings, and rings replaced. The crank was polished.
Any idea what would cause a bearing to break?
The car is a Z06 with an LS7 engine.

what did the crank look like on engine tear down???

What oil were you running ? IIRC, there is an O ring on the oil pickup that can have problems.

I never saw it. It was sent out to a machine shop. I was told that the crank was polished.

Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30. I had the oil changed 2 weeks before this all happened. My mechanic even commented that the oil looks pretty dirty.
