Think Johnny hockey got the nod from the Flames organization.
Those Flames are having a pretty successful road swing and nice to get a few wins prior to the all star break.

How about Crosby saying that he thought he didn't deserve the invite based on the season he's had so far (and a journalist saying that the vote is a popularity contest of who the fans want to see regardless if the player is all-star material???

My fav memory (for obvious reasons) was watching this:



The NHL got it right when they changed it to 3 on 3 with a one million cash prize. They still need to fix the selections since fan favorites get selected as opposed to players who are playing better.

One last very funny story: during one of the years that Bobby Orr was an All Star, as he came out onto the ice during the introductions, he stumbled crossing the threshold and fell onto the ice. Here was the defenseman that forever changed the game of hockey for his speed, agility, and marksmanship tripping over his own two feet. Watched it live!

Well now you've touched on why I don't care. The league doesn't need to sell players like Crosby or even Marchand to fans of the game. We get it. Those that don't probably never will. The All Star selection should indeed have a fan favorite component but the players should be selected by stats. Heck the coaches are the two leading coaches in the league, why not a similar selection for the players?

Every year until recently, they chose Chara so that he could be in the hardest shot. Now Neal is the one to have. I get that. Let's face it, sports is a marketed commodity. I just wish that the All Star game would be more about the elite athletes that season rather than "we want to see Cindy" will help the ratings (or Marchand). Up until recently, the skills were far better than the game. With the 3 on 3 there is enough push to win the bucks to make the game exciting as well. Too bad there isn't checking though.

And now for something completely different:
Who would ahve guessed that NJ has a solid hold on 3rd playoff spot in the Metro and the Habs are no where close to making the playoffs at this point? I know, I know, its only the midway point yet, statistically if you aren't in the playoffs by the All Star game, 80% of the time you won't be there at the end of the season.
