need to replace my 3/8th drive (longer handled) ratchet.
 

oh boy. been out of the tool buying side of things for a long while.

changing my rear differential oil, i damn near busted my knuckles when my Craftsman wrench sheared something and went loose. i pitched it into the garbage. i had the 11" handle one, for the added leverage on stubborn fasteners. i still have two 8" standard sized ones. i need to replace the long one.

i googled snap-on and my eyes glazed over. they really like variation.:)

Wife and I like to go to street fairs and swap meets, there is always one or more guys with a table full of tools. (wife always drags me away from those tables the minute I spot one.) :D

I've bought mac and craftsman from the local snap on truck for pennies on the dollar. They take other brands in on trade, then dump them.

Good tip.

Also, if you want new, Proto is a good brand, a step up from Craftsman.

My experience is there is no better ratchet than Snap-on. Period. They have a very fine tooth setup, with high quality gears. Lots of choices on handle styles and lengths. Nothing feels better in your hand.

Cliff - instead of eBay maybe check CL first. I see all kinds of deals on tools there and you may find what you want within' easy driving distance.

Also - do a "tool box" search on CL - amazing what you'll find. Sometime someone sells a whole tool box full of tools for a relatively inexpensive figure.

Tools are heavy - CL is a great option over eBay for this reason alone.

Hey Scott, one of my guy like to go to the swap meet over by the 100 fwy in the Alpine Village to buy misc tools. He ways they have lots of good stuff and cheap. Sorry for going off topic on ya Vash

That jarred some repressed memories.... my actions may have contributed to Sears downfall. As a teenager, in the 70's, I took lifetime warranty to mean I extend it with a pipe, or hit it with a hammer. (poor man's impact gun) I seem to remember, after asking for my third 'lifetime 1/2" ratchet' replacement in a week, the manager advising me not to come back for a while....

On something that tight I’d use a breaker bar then the above. Regular ratchets are good for tight spots but you’ll never go back after using electric. 55ft lbs...

This is probably my most used hand tool. It is extra long, and a fine tooth. Hands down, the best long handle ratchet I have ever owned. I have a shorter version also, for tighter areas.
Some people do not like the bent handles, but it keeps your knuckles away from things while you are wrenching. Once you get used to it, you will never go back to a straight one

Used Snap On or Gearwrench XP120, I have both. I actually use the XP more often than my SnapOn Dual 80- only because it's in the closer toolbox tho ;)

Not quite as well built as a Snappy, but at 1/4 the price I can live with a snap ring exterior (VS bolts on the Snap on) I really like the XP series tho, feels solid and glides- will turn almost loose bolts easily.

Same here. Over the years I have accumulated ratchets from Mac, Snap-on, Wera, some old Craftsman, and Gearwrench (120). 8 out of 10 times, the Gearwrench seems to find its way in hand.

my tool purchase quota from the host has been met..i bought a CIS gauge from them and way overpaid. i'm good.

I have been using my Metabo set for 47 years, and i have worked it brutally. Teng are very good too.

You could just take the broken Craftsman one back and get a new one for free.

that ship has sailed..jumping around my garage cussing and holding my dented hand..that wrench got spiked into the dog poo bag..

it was a heat of the moment decision. and that thing was my lucky wrench!!

I have never needed a 3/8 long handle ratchet. I do, however, use floor jack levers, pipe, over the ratchet handle.

One of the A&Ps (aviation mechanic) at my old company had a nice set of Craftsman Professional hand tools. Very nice but now part of the history books.
