Rolex 24 Thread- Who's going this year?
Another Rolex 24 weekend is upon us. I'm headed down tomorrow morning for four days of excitement. Anyone else going?
New cars and new drivers this year. A lot of teams and drivers from across the pond. A very high level of professionalism. Penske is back with Acura and a very strong driver lineup. IMSA seems to have come up with a pretty good formula. I just hope the full course yellows don't come out every other lap. Here's a link to my shots (250 or so) from the Roar a few weeks ago. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ury914/ See you there SmileWavy |
Have you found a good list of drivers and cars?
It sure helps to watch when you now what car to root for. |

Weather should be very accommodating - highs in 70's, lows in 60's, with slight chance of rain on Sunday.
Only 5 Porsches in the entire race and none in Prototype class......boo....hiss......:( I live very nearby but will not be attending again until Porsche has a Prototype entry. Your mileage may vary and if you do decide to go - have fun! SmileWavy |

Who knew you needed a ladder to remove an engine from a 911? ;) |

I may be a Porsche guy but these F-cars sure are pretty. |
I got my passes a few weeks ago, but no infield parking.
|
I’m going Thursday thru Sunday. Can’t wait.
Staying at hotel. |
I'm going, corral bound, bringing this red one with me. Weather is looking good, Sunday might be challenging.

So no prototype Porsche entered.
GTLM is pretty slim, two Corvettes, Two BMW's, one Ferrari, two Ford GTs, and two Porsche 911s. And they open up a class to "street tuners" just to have more slow cars to pass? The most annoying part for me is how all the prototype cars look exactly the same except the paint scheme. When I need a entry list to look up the number tell a Nissan from a Cadillac from a Oreca is makes it hard to get really into the race. I am not a fan of spec racing. I will be watching the limited coverage. |
Porsche 24 Hour fun facts...
Porsche celebrates the 50th anniversary of its first overall win at the Rolex 24 this weekend. Vic Elford, who teamed with Jochen Neerpasch, Rolf Stommelen, Jo Siffert and Hans Herrmann for victory in the 1968 race with a Porsche 907 LH, will be on-site for the celebrations. ***The German manufacturer holds a record 22 overall wins in the race, the most recent coming in 2010 with Action Express Racing’s Porsche-powered Riley DP. Remarkably, Porsche has a 70 percent class win record, totaling 78 class victories in the Florida endurance classic. |
