Don't change my airport's name bro....

Y'all see where I live....my local airport is like a ghost town most daze....Hooterville ;). But it's had the designation PTI (Piedmont Triad INTERNATIONAL) like forever...long as you fly to Charlotte, Atlanta, Newark, etc. first, I reckon it is...but don't try to change the name....I'll lose my identity :)

Does Piedmont mean anything to anyone not from around here? Serious question btw...

LEAKYSEALS951 01-27-2018 03:40 AM

Pine Tree International? :)

widgeon13 01-27-2018 04:15 AM

Is there a reason for the desired change.

I hate changing stuff just because some ******* wants to make a change.

When I hear Piedmont I think of Piedmont Airlines. I don't know if they are in existence anymore?

Halm 01-27-2018 04:47 AM

Piedmont = US Scare.

Keith, I remember back in the the mid ‘70’s the Winston-Salem airport had better routes and more traffic than PTI. Then after the merger of the two airports, for purely political reasons, there was some major event that essentially turned off commercial air travel in the Triad. Don’t remember what it was. The RJR debacle?

Tervuren 01-27-2018 04:49 AM

Well, since I'm from around here I can't give an answer.

shadowjack1 01-27-2018 05:01 AM

I lived on Hilton Head for a few years and became aware of the Piedmont at that time. So I decline to answer.

I remember studying about the Piedmont Plateau of North Carolina in high school geography class. Other than that, I flew on the old Piedmont Airlines a couple of times.

I flew on THE very last Piedmont flight into Myrtle Beach back in the early 90's. i think we connected through Charlotte. That was the original. However, there is a Piedmont Airlines flying as a regional carrier. Mostly does American Eagle routes.

That was it....they announced the name change a few weeks back....made more than a few folks mad...decided against it. Yes, Piedmont is an area (like in Italy) that describes the rolling hills between the mountains and coastal plain.

The airline of that name was based here...

Hal....If I do something stooopid in a couple of months....you still interested? I'm leaning that way....she's sad these daze...just 'cause she doesn't get out....just different priorities for me anymore.

Yes. I'll send you a PM is a few minutes.

They can call it whatever they want on the outside, but internally, it will always be GSO!

BlueWing 01-27-2018 08:11 PM

Piedmont Airlines, I used to fly from Newark International to Charlotte for 99 bucks round trip.

Now my retirement home has some neighbors that worked for Piedmont Airlines and have some sort of Piedmont Airlines club. I go over every year to their fly in and they have a smaller dual prop they bring in. Always a load of Piedmont Airline T shirts hats and such.

I don't live there full time yet but soon.

Back to a name change, my current Governor Cuomo want to rename Stewart International Airport to New York International at Stewart Field. The original family that donated the land has a 93 year agreement to keep the original name.
Think of the costs in legal documentation and signage for what?

I hate when they do that, everyone familiar will still call it the old name and than get a rude correction from the people in charge.

Why confuse things when there is so much more need fixing.

Terry

Agreed, it costs good money to make a name change ..usually taxpayer money. So many signs have to be re-made etc. There better be a good reason.

ps. after 30 years they changed my zip code, & I am still p.o.-ed
