Anyone else having problems with Firefox?

A couple issues:
1). Downloads fail randomly. Maybe one out of ten.
Or only the _files part of the page gets downloaded.

2). Some websites never fully load.
Pelican Parts in particular. It just keeps spinning and spinning.
Originally thought that was part of the changeover with new ad servers? but it does occur on other sites.

3). Some websites are blocked.
I'd get a "certificate not valid and website blocked for your protection" error message.
This happened before with major websites such as walmart online as well. Huh.
That is really....um...proactive...of Firefox.....blocking me in away from the dirty internet out there...

Firefox has been crap since the "Quantum" update.

In addition to those it does not save the tabs properly for the next time I open it. A lot of pages are improperly rendered. Cookie handling is abysmal. I am thinking of moving to Vivaldi.

No, no problems on Quantum at all.

I do like the idea of anti-tracking features. (Sure hope it works with all the Google javascript and the NSA backdoor in the chipset.)

The hard-blocking of websites, not just a warning splash screen or just a very helpful bar icon, but absolutely no way to get past the block is what concerns me.
That is suppression.

I'm talking about this kind of stuff:
https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2017/08/22/fake-news-mozilla-joins-the-fight-to-stop-it-polluting-the-web/
"MITI will tackle fake news in several ways. It will work on products that target misinformation, both itself and with media organizations.
It will also research the spread and effect of fake news (expect some reports soon), and it will also host “creative interventions” that seek to highlight the spread of misinformation in interesting ways.

No issues, except no Youtube after latest update. I fixed that previously, but forgot how? Use Chrome sometimes also...

I use 'download flash and video' addon for youtube to save vids.
It usually works on other websites.

None here!

Well there's your problem.

Most of the site loading issues I come across are due to malfunctioning 3rd-party garbage. Install Ublock Origin

If I am burning time watching vids on Youtube it will black the video out after a while (one hour plus of streaming) but not the audio.

Odd thing is it is triggered by Conan or Jimmy Kimmel vids. Not Bat Dad or car vids.

Makes me think it may be other than firefox.

The page failing to fully load has been discussed in a previous thread. Something to do with gathering metadata. It's the site, not the browser. Happens in Chrome as well. Oops - mentioned already immediately above.

Have not touched Firefox in years.

Chrome, mostly because of extensions.

Been using Opera again on a couple of boxes and starting to become my default browser.

I have recently been having issues using google services. Drive, analytics, mail, etc. They sometimes fail to render the page or get random connectivity issues. I'm not sure if it's the last FF update or my AV/Firewall. I have noticed that on some sites running ads that Ghostery fails to block them.

One of the things that can greatly help Firefox is to occasionally go to the "history" tab and clear all of your "history." It can be a bit annoying to lose some of your cookies and things but it can really help.

Hmm, weird, I never have problems with FF. But then I do have uBlock Origin or whatever adblock Thom mentioned earlier and I run noscript (and several other extensions).

It's also not unusual for my to have a few hundred tabs open. Yeah, I just don't close them, or I'll pull up links planning to read them later and sometimes, it's a lot later.

I find Firefox superior to Safari. I don't use Chrome because Google is into my life enough as it is and I like to support alternatives to Google products as long as they survive the Google onslaught.

JackDidley 01-31-2018 07:42 PM

Try Palemoon. Similar to Firefox. I think better.
