I grew up playing and following sports, about the same time I started my own business following and playing sports took a back seat. After a few years I yearned for a hobby and always have been into cars so I started Autocrossing.

I loosely follow F1 now, I used to be a fanatic, and know nothing about stick and ball sports anymore.

I get the same reaction from folks as you guys disbelief that I am not into sports.

Boy, am I ever with you on this one. For me the Superbowl just means a good time to take the 911 or a bike out and have the backroads to myself. I just cannot grasp the fascination some have with sports. Granted, I do enjoy motorsports, but it's more a fascination with the machines than anything else.

My older brother is a huge Mariners fan. He can not only name all the players, he can tell you their wive's, girlfriends', and kids' names. Every stat there is, too - "Bob (guy at bat) has a .433 on-base average against left handed pitchers at afternoon home games with men on first and third and two outs in the eighth inning, but he's been hot lately, upping that to .587 in the last ten home games...". Jeezus... I mean, he has to wake me up to tell me that, but he's on the edge of his seat. I'll go to games just to spend time with him, but crap... The time he must spend totally immersed in that nonsense...

Oh, and what the NFL needs to worry about is the precipitous decline in 18-35 year old males following their television program.

Don't follow pro sports now, but I sure as heck know what the Vikings D line was called in the 1970's, or what a fair catch is, or who Mr Landry coached. As a lad I followed that stuff closely. Quit watching baseball 25 years ago, lost interest in the NFL a few years ago.

Growing up near Cleveland, I must be a rabid sports fan, if I have been a Browns/Indians/Cavaliers fan for all these years....obviously not in it for the notoriety of being a loser.

The premise of football is pretty awesome and primitive. Real estate acquisition by force. I think the NFL is the pinnacle of pro sports but it is going downhill fast.

My grandmother was a Cincinnati Reds fan and kept stats on every game. She would listen on the radio while she made clothes for us and record every play in her notebooks. My brother inherited that gene, only his passion is Cleveland Browns football. He has 50 years of notebooks of stats he recorded, ticket stubs from every game he has attended. He has watched football in every NFL stadium, baseball in every MLB stadium, and hockey in every NHL rink. He travels a LOT, probably been to 90% of the countries on earth (in Vietnam right now) when he gets home he has days of games recorded to watch on tv. He doesn’t drink beer or eat junk food. He’s an interesting guy in a lot of ways, a little eccentric, and not your typical sports fan.

Our family inherited Browns fandom from our father. He was a Cleveland fan back when they were the Cleveland Rams. We are all over the political spectrum, go to different churches, etc but you would be banned from the family if you weren’t a Browns fan.
We were in mourning when Belichic benched Bernie Kosar.
Finally pulled off a perfect season this year though.
