Australian International Air Show - Photos

Here's some photos from the Australian International Air Show, held from February 14-16 at Avalon Airfield. The weather was pretty overcast, but the rain held off for most of the day. Heck, it was almost good, old British weather!

Possibly the most bulbous aircraft ever built!

Some Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F-111 AADVARKS!

The business end of the F-15 Strike Eagle.

The 3.6 Swap-guys could shoehorn one of these aircooled babies into a 911...

F-16 Fighting Falcon

P51 Mustang!

... and the incredible Supermarine Spitfire!

I was actually hoping the weather would be as good as the previous night's sunset promised!

Great photos Adam.

That Airbus is a bit of a giggle.

I saw a really big Russian made transporter on the tarmac at Sydney a few months ago and the guy I was sitting next to was a pilot and new all about the type of plane. He was really excited about seeing it, maybe because it was so large, maybe becasue it had made it so far without crashing...

Bell,

I took around 60 photos. I'll have to find a way to host them all so that you can d/l them.

Bill, it wasn't an Antonov was it? There was a An-225 that came to Melbourne back in 1988 for the Bicentennial Airshow and that thing was HUGE. At the time, it was the largest aircraft in existence. I think the (then) Soviets also sent over a couple of IL-76s for demo use and even an Sukhoi Su-27 and a Mig-29!!

I've got it all on VHS somewhere...

I love airshows.

it looks lilke an old Jiffy Pop stove top popcorn shaker.

Actually this plane looks odd taking off too. The rear maingear come off first and it wheelbarrows on the nose gear down the runway before lifting.

Hahaha.. Ted!

I can just imagine that. I think I might have seen it on Discovery channel a few years back. They had a special series on Airbus and it had footage of the first A300 "Computer Landing", which approached gracefully, then soared along the runway at 80ft before plowing into the trees at the end of the strip.

Apparently the human pilot (really a rider, as he had NO control) was blamed for the loss of an Airbus A300, but the footage is truly spectacular!!

Adam, I don't know what sort it was but the chap next to me (who was a amature pilot) was REALLY excited about seeing it. It was actually quite a nice looking plane as well. As you may have guessed I know as much about planes as chicks do that go shopping for cars by their colour.
