Earthquake in Taiwan

Apparently this hotel tipped over in only a 6.4 quake - I wonder why?

I'm no engineer, but damn it looks woefully under braced, no?






Are there a couple of posts missing here?




I pray the death toll is low

The steel posts and concrete pillars were able to hold the building up, but were not sufficient to handle lateral forces.

Actually looks OK. Slenderness and Column buckling are counter intuitive.. radius of gyration bla bla bla...
