My mouth is watering. I have not had a good Ribeye for over 2 years. I don't have the equipment (450F pans and a gas grill) to cook them at home. So this is probably slumming but the best beef I have eaten is the outlaw ribeye at longhorn in the BWI area. This includes the couple dinners I have had at Mortons and Ruth Chris. I was recently in the BWI area for 6 nights but worked the entire time so no beef for me. Gosh darn I need to attend to this.

OP Scott, sorry to barge in on your thread. I hate the LV strip so no advice from me.

No problem, the noise/glitter/smells/crowds/chaos of the Strip is not for everyone (it is an acquired taste).

Frankly I'm not a huge fan either, much rather be on the beach with an umbrella drink but I got talked into this so I'm trying to make the best of it.

Perhaps I'm trying to reunite with the days of my youth in Vegas, back when we would party like rock stars, stay up all night and sleep all day, but I just turned 61 so I think we all know that isn't going to happen.

Of course there is always The Palm but even there, you don't need to spend $100 on food alone. Of course, you can.
The Palms is now a Station Casino property. They had a tasty buffet...but now? If they changed it it is now dreck.

Jerry's Nugget $13 for Prime Rib and it is as good as you can get anywhere. The deserts are all done in house and are killer. So there is value to be had.

See, there he goes about the buffet...

In all seriousness tabby, since you are undoubtedly the resident expert on all things Vegas, where should he go for a tasty rare plus ribeye? Forget the buffets, where do you go when you want to kick it up a notch?

I'm pretty sure Don Tabby is like the rest of the locals and avoids the crowds/high prices of the strip like the plague

I know we are being stupid tourist but when in Rome, and someone has to keep those dirty casinos going

No doubt, but surely he's taken advantage of some of the recent offerings. Vegas has gone from something of a culinary ****hole to one of the better cities in the US, if you're looking for a really good meal from the best chefs in the country.

And, I'd be hugely surprised if he doesn't crave an occasional steak. Someone with his tastes and life experiences knows how good a steak can be. He likes food, a lot.

Jose Andres is a great chef. He's got a great restaurant in Wash. DC, if you are ever in that town...

I was actually looking at booking a room at the SLS, looks really nice but kinda out away form all the action.

Searching steak houses I looked at Bazaar meat, it also looks very nice, but a bit pricey.

We actually stayed at the "W" which is a boutique hotel within the SLS, has a separate entrance, but access through a passage to the restaurants and Casino. The room were decorated interestingly, not just standard hotel decor.... It is at the end of the strip, but there is a monorail stop right there, and also Uber and Lyft are always around..

As for Bazaar being spendy, yes it can be, but its a really good meal, like you said live it up..

BTW my s/o made the reservations through Vacations to go or something and we got the rooms for a pretty serious discount... I don't remember how much but it wasn't painful

I haven’t been to Vegas in years. A few weeks ago, when I was in the Mohave. It was mighty tempting to head in for a meal.

I was gone for decades, it is quite a shock to go from remembering the old strip casinos set back from the strip with fountains, gardens, an big neon sign. Now there are huge high rises right on the strip and the whole side of the building lights up as a sign.

Whoa. No kidding? I might need to see this. Is it crowded?

Less than 2 miles to walk from the Mirage to Circus Circus with plenty places to stop and “rest” along the way.

Always amazes me what people in the US consider “walking distance” - what is it? 200 yards or less!?

After a big, expensive dinner? It's a short distance, preferably no greater than the distance from the restaurant to the elevator, thence from that to my room.

I know it was mentioned already, but the Golden Steer is one of my all time favorite spots. I love how all the booths are named after Rat Pack celebs which isn't unusual, however they have pictures on the wall of those celebs in those exact booths which makes it fun. Sitting in the Dean Martin booth where Dean actually sat gives a nostalgic feel to the place. Complete dumpster fire neighborhood though...at least time i was there
