We moved to Volusia County in January of 1970 and that year I saw my first Daytona 500 (and 24 hours) in person. The good old days.

Awesome video....thanks, Sugarwood!

Wow, great story, even if you're not a NASCAR fan.

That was fun to watch. Amazing how far technology has come on the in-car camera front. Those early ones would become a lethal weapon if it came loose in a crash.

Which is why it was a hell of a lot more entertaining. Guys out there racing cars that you could recognize as production cars. Your Chevy in the parking lot looked a lot like the one going around the track.

Is there any part of todays cars that are found on the production cars? Or are they 100% purpose built race cars?

Not that I am aware of, priority is crash aerodynamics and survivability of occupants and bystanders.

100% race cars. Even the body shape, which is the same for every car on the track, bears no similarity to any car brand.
