Garage Art-Seeking Advice
In 1979, I drove my DB4 Aston Martin from Massachusetts to Los Angeles. After 3,000 miles the trannie took a dump, I didn't realize at some point I'd lost the rear trannie seal and lost the 1.5 quarts of oil that it held. The trannie died about two miles from my sister's apartment in Venice.
Anyway I then found a used trannie and used the two to make one good trannie. I sold the car about ten years ago, but kept the extra trannie cover because I thought it was cool. I decided to clean it up and mount it as garage art. Here are some pics and a few questions, seeking garage art advice. Before ![]() Cleaning ![]() After ![]() Mounted ![]() I made the mount with scrap wood in the garage, I don't like it, its too tall because of the trannie dipstick that you can see next to the front left wood post. I can remove the dipstick and lower it a few inches. I'm thinking of going to round dowels and staining the entire wood mount very dark brown or painting it black. I'm thinking of putting a mirror under it so as you shift the gears, you can see the shift forks and rods move. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, its a piece of garage art of something I no longer own. Photo of old DB4 ![]() Thoughts?
