Watch a card skimmer get installed in seconds...

“I must warn you that after reading this article and watching the video below you’ll probably never use a credit card reader or ATM again without first pulling on the keypad,” Matthew Humphries reports for PC Magazine. “And it’s not actually a bad idea to do so because of how stealthy skimmers have become.”
“As Krebs on Security reports, the latest way your card details can be stolen is through the use of ‘overlay skimmers,'” Humphries reports. “They take the form of a keypad that hides the card detail-capturing components behind a plastic casing. The keypads are then stuck over the top of either ATM keypads or the the card readers now typically found in checkout lanes.”

“Police in Lower Pottsgrove, PA are currently searching for a couple of men who have been installing these overlay skimmers on checkout lane card readers in Aldi supermarkets,” Humphries reports. “As the video below shows, installation simply requires a few seconds of interaction with the reader.”

i could not get past the fact the guy is dancing like he has to pee like there is no tomorrow.

did not see what you are talking about.

but yes, your cards can get scanned even in your wallet.

CC readers are the least of your worries. every time you order something over the internet and use your CC someone has access to ALL the info they need to use your card. even that super secret private 3 digit code on the back that really makes CC more secure.
it has happened to my wife several times now for her business.
she narrowed it down to this one company she orders from. every time she orders from them her card gets "stolen"
fortunately the banks are eating the loses. I think you would be pretty hard pressed to find a bank that does not cover their CC getting stolen.

we have these cards that go behind our ID badges for work so no one can scan our badges. you can get the same thing for your wallet. I could see someone in a big city that rides subways or is in large crowds wanting one.

Don't your cards have a chip? over here they all do, it's like a simcard on a phone, but in the card.
we don't swipe our card, it has to be inserted.

Has been like that for 10 years now, to my knowledge we haven't got any much problems with Skimming around here... We only get that when we travel to the US or to exotic countries in the far east.

Most do these days.

Visa / MasterCard / Amex finally threw down the gauntlet and gave retailers a drop dead date to convert by or they would no longer honor fraud.

Retailers were told either you get on board or you eat it.

Still, even in too many places where chipped readers are installed they have not been integrated into the merchants POS.

It’s getting better, slowly.

Chip cards don't much when you order stuff online or over the phone..

chip cards still have the magnetic strip.
not all stores have the chip reader
have not seen any at gas stations

I've had chip cards get scammed plenty of times. I really don't care about it, since I'm never on the hook for it and the card issuer usually catches it long before I see the next bill. It's a pain in the ass when it happens while I'm traveling overseas and especially when the card that gets locked is the one I used for the rental car insurance. But I always have backups.

my chip card has the strip, but i have never used it in the last 10 years.
So 0 risk to be skimmed.. i could degauss the strip and render it useless and i would not miss it.

I was surprised last time I was in Vegas at how little the chip and pin was used.
