I have one of those old auger drills that used the big square heads that went in the drill.
it was shaped like a "U". I will try to remember to take some pics of his tools. the saw is up in the attic, I wont get it down. |
i remember old screwdrivers that you could push down on and it would turn the screw.
i am sure they still have them but back then that was as close to an electric screw driver as you could get. |

Good stuff
I've been getting more into woodworking and have found a few old planes, rulers, squares... best one is an old clamp. Cool stuff worth saving. Rather than keep them in a toolbox a few I want to display, not because they look great or are worth much but they are unique and are different. |
I have my fathers old tools, in 3 of those steel cantilever tools boxes that will chop your fingers off if you arent careful. He had a car repair business. Many of his spanners are Whitworth sizes. One tool that I found in there when I had exhausted all my own tools to undo one of the engine mount bolts on my 924S was a cast spanner marked Ford. It was the right size and shape to do the job perfectly.

Right WD, brace and bit.
|
I have a brace (actually 2 of them) and back before battery operated drills I had to use it up in my attic. I did not hav enough electrical cord to reach that far back in the attic.
|
I have my grandad's shash clamps. They are sort of an expanding pair of G-clanps. I don't know how often I have used them, or what I wold have done without them.
Me too, a whole lotta screw drivers inherited. |
My mother donated my grandfather's tools(he was a sadler) back in the 1970's to a museum in Norfolk, England. Now everybody can see them and nobody can use them.:)
|
When my grandfather passed away (many years ago), I received most of his tools. I lucked out, compared to my brother, because most of his tools were ingraved with his name, which happened to be the same as mine, sorry little brother :)

When I was a kid I was always in my dad's tools and ended up scattering or loosing many of them. He tried to be patient and teach me to be careful and put things away but I wasn't good at that back then.
Same with my younger brother. that's how I learned to cuss, listening to dad trying to find one of his tools. :D By the time we moved out, his tools were in somewhat of a shambles. He could still manage to get the odd job completed but had to improvise sometimes. So as I got older I decided to correct that. i started buying him tools. Good tools, complete sets, tool boxes, more than he would ever need. Many thousands of dollars worth. Christmas, birthdays, whenever I saw something on sale. That went on for a long time. He passed on last year and when I was there I saw the tools, many of them still in the original packaging having never never used. I noticed that i had lost track and doubled-up on a lot of them and he had many duplicates. But he kept every one. Hopefully one of my brothers will want the tools or mom will sell them for what she can get. I don't think I'd feel good having them. I'd prolly have to donate them. |
This is a great thread - I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts.
My 2 brothers and I all have tools from our father and his father before him (who was a machinist) plus our step father, who at one time owned a service station - so you can imagine how much stuff we had/have in the family. For now - just wanted to post a pic of my grandfathers old Sears battery charger - which still works and is still used..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1519786809.JPG Edit: Maybe it was my Dad's......I'll have to ask my oldest brother who mailed it to me..... |
Ha! My dad loaned me that same-looking charger!

One of the tools that get used all the time is grandpa’s old gas can. It is an old 5 gallon oil can. I remember filling up his lawn mower when I was a kid. Dad used it for 30 years and now it is mine. Almost every time I go to the gas station to fill it up someone offers to buy it. I always quote a thousand bucks which for sure get me to sell it. That will never happen.

I have a few of my dads hand/mech tools, craftsman.
he has been gone for quite a while but I think if every time I use them. its funny how when I was a kid he would get mad when I took his tools, and usually left them somewhere like the yard. it seems like he was more patient with me, too bad I did not have the tolerance with my kid. BUT, I was the youngest of 4(2 other brothers) so I think he was just worn out after the others, which I can understand. the socket I use to remove spark plugs was one of his. |
