Orthopedic help
My daughter broke her foot and has an appointment with an ortho Friday morning. The urgent care facility told her she has a broken bone and the bone is out of place. That is all I got from her. The fact that the bone moved, makes me concerned that it might require surgery.
She is in college and it is a 10 hour drive, so I'm not going to be able to go to the appointment with her. Would it be appropriate for her to call me during the appointment for me to listen in? What questions should I have her ask? The school is in a small college town. It appears there is only a general orthopedics practice. No specialists. What would be the necessary diagnosis, if any, to warrant finding a specialist? If it results in a surgical procedure, how much does being a college student living in a dorm complicate recovery? Thanks |

...just ask her ;) |
Depends on what she broke, how displaced it is and how unstable the fracture is.

Thank you. I figured it depends, but wanted to ask.

how did she break her foot?
and i wish her a quick recovery!! |
I work at a boarding school. It's not uncommon for students to call or facetime during an medical appt. My wife is an advance practice nurse and I know she would be on the phone during the appt with my son or daughter if the Doc felt they needed a procedure.

Not sure we are getting the full story. She said a friend stepped on it. I know enough not to ask questions I’m not sure I want the answers to. |
