If all Porsches are now turbo, how do we designate the Turbo?

But the badge will read "Turbo $" The former Turbo S will be called "Turbo $$" To be honest, i think it's Bull$****. that there are no more NA engines. They won't put out any less polution in real life use they will just consume less fuel at lower use where nobody cares what they do.. And I bet Porsche will have to figure out a way to keep chiptuners from increasing the boost and rivaling the Turbo S model for cheaps.. porsche hates having others take their margin... So I expect some kind of DME with a firewall/AV/checksup rootkit protection soon. Or they will build mechanical parts that are hard to replace and will do a controlled failure if subjeted to to much boost. Like intake runners that can only handle xx amount of boost or dfi injectors that don't work with high boost but have a non standard mounting compared to the turbo injectors that can handle it. To be honest, if I had the money now, I'de probably buy a more recent NA engined second hand 991.. Like the 993 they will be the last of a breed, and will becomes more valuable , low production last of an era. |
Will the "real turbo" still get you a Metzger engine?
|
I would think they have to keep that up , else the difference would be to little for them to justify the price difference.
|
I wonder if it would be possible to unturbo them..
different cams different exhaust (which people do all the time anyway) loose some horse power and torque, sure, but most people can't use 350-400 horses anyway.. And definately not on public roads |
Doesn't the current 991 already have light pressure turbos on the "integrated dry sump" (non-metzger) engine? I'm not up to date on much past the 997.1. I was at my local indy shop awhile back and saw a new one on the lift...noticed it had an oil pan and I thought I saw small turbos on each side.

It's MEZGER... no 't'.

they sound like **** compared to a high strung NA engine. From your forum name, i gather you do like turbo. that's fine. But the fact remains that most people can't handle 350 horses They don't need 350 horses Turbo's do not sound as refined as a NA flat 6 at 7000 rpm.... This change has nothing to do with fun, power or excitement, it has to do with emissions I'll take 250 horses a lighter chassis no lag, great sound All day long. You do realize that these low pressure turbo's are only there because of regulatory emission testing, right? So what is so wrong at the suggestion that I would prefer it if they got one out that compromises some horsepower in favor of a better experience? They can get those emissions down just as easy without the turbo.. just a bit less power.. but no; that's a marketing issue everything has to be bigger and more powerful at each generation. a turbo in this context is not the superlative people think it is. It's just more bland. Next time, they'll introduce mandatory hybride power. They'll down scale the engine like in the Cayman and replace some cyllinders with batteries Flat 4 doing 200 bhp 200 from the batteries You'll still have more horses at the wheels you'll still have some kind of turbo for that little flat 4 engine But it will be bland. it will sound like sjit Treehuggers will rejoice I won't. the Next gen will be a Flat 2 with a little turbo on it. basically it will be a little petrol engine to extend the autonomy of the Porschitesla past the city limits of your home town. 100 horses from petrol sounding like brrrrrrrrrrr, flatline and monotomous with the remaining 350 horses sounding like zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz But you'll have those 450 horses, woop ti doo. after that you'll have your 911 E, where E used to stand proud for Einspritzung, that E will be for Eeeuhletric. |
Anyone can handle 350-400 HP in a newer Porsche. The driving nannies make it nearly impossible not to be able to handle the HP.
400 HP in an older car like my 86 Turbo, that’s a different story. I don’t need 400+ HP in this car but it sure puts a huge grin on my face everytime it hits 4200 RPM. |
Well sure, but they still can't use those 350-400 hp on the streets
I prefer my 250 hp with the gimmicks off over 350 with nannie systems. you know, driver, instead of "operator" |

And they are not stock. Personally I'm not a racer, and would not wanna be seen dead in one. They are just not good looking cars imo.. And since I'm no moviestar, i really need a roof and a car that at least looks better then me ;) |
