I was really into spoons as a young teen...Col. Jeff Cooper (RIP) was part of my regular reading...go big or just don't go ;)

...but I do have a pea shooter...a baby Ruger LC9S.....please forgive me Col. Cooper :)

I learned to shoot in high school, on out team. My instructor was a Marine veteran who served in Korea. Of course we trained using .22 lever action rifles and I remember him saying "yeah they're small and someday you'll get a real gun, but you aim and fire those just the same!"

Just heard the FL AG on the news explaining how bump stocks turn an AR from SA into FA. She repeated it a few times, so it wasn't a slip of the tongue. When policy makers are this ignorant, they have no business making policy. SMH.

Furthermore, she said they're going to come up with an app for kids to report others they suspect could be mentally deranged and prone to gun violence. I wonder if the cops and FBI would take those reports more seriously than the many they received about this latest perp. We're doomed.

....

They are technically incorrect, but make no mistake, I know the difference...and it does not matter imo. When I first heard the Vegas videos the very first thing I thought....that's FA.
To a novice...there is no difference...YMMV.

I'm not saying you can't buy one though....Trump's gonna do that...unless he lied ;)

And what would you think, had the Vegas shooter just used his belt loop or a rubber band instead of a manufactured bump fire stock? BF stocks make it easier to fire faster, but it's not a foolproof way to shoot at a FA rate. Again, I've taken friends to the range who could not make mine work at all for them. There is a technique to it and it takes practice. And the last real machine gun I shot had a rate of fire probably below what I could do on a SA rifle with just my unassisted index finger.

I'm not arguing that Rick...you are correct...I have no doubt. Trump is gonna EO them away however...well, that's what he said...

I doubt that, and it wouldn't have one iota of effect. It'd get a court challenge on the same day. Maybe he'd be able to temporarily stop new ones from being sold. But remember - these do not have serial numbers or date codes. They are untraceable and there have to be over a million of them in circulation. Sure, maybe people will stop shooting them at public ranges. But how is that going to stop the next mass shooter? Oh, ever heard of binary triggers? They make bump fire stocks look like Legos. They're more expensive and have never been used in a crime. But the gun-ignorant crowd hasn't even heard of them. And so they'll continue to fly off the shelves a while longer.

KFC911 03-02-2018 06:05 AM

I'm not debating any of your technically correct points....but Trump (unless he lied :)), said a couple of days ago that he was gonna issue an EO on bump stocks...we'll see. He's not exactly consistent from day-to-day ;).

Somebody should put her on the list...

She is a lost soul as she does not know what her center of gravity is. She is like the HS Cheer Leader who wants to be popular and will do or say anything that pops in her head to make it so...thus no center of gravity. Like a leaf which ever way the wind is blowing is where she is going to go.

And you fkers chose her for a leadership role.

First thing is, let us take responsibility for having the likes of her in office.. Most of you act like you are bewildered little victims moaning about how terribly insane it has all become.

Time to report the FL AG as mentally deranged.

After founding this great country on a system of checks and balances, how far down this slippery slope will we go?
Guilty until.... Just guilty because I said so!- Case closed!

Yep, failure at many levels, but punishment for the legal gun owners:mad:
Because the local cops, the FBI and other agencies failed to do their jobs, the NRA & Joe Blow get blamed & punished.

Ah yes - I grew up reading Col. Cooper. My other huge influence in all things big bore was Elmer Keith. Between the two of them, I grew up believing the .45 ACP was for ground hogs and the .375 H&H was a fine caliber for white tails.

Gotta say, after my own experiences in the field, I can't say they were wrong.

If you're willing to use a pump, I'd go with a 12 gauge. I know more than a few LE guys who stock their at-home sweepers with 00 buck, but I prefer #4 -- 27 pellets of ~.25 caliber rather than 15 pellets of ~.32 caliber. Never used in a self-defense situation but gives me a little extra confidence.

You can get reduced-recoil buckshot loads but I've never tried them in an auto and wouldn't know if they'd cycle properly/reliably.

Rick, everything you are saying it true, but I still want bumpstocks and any other devices that assist in increasing a persons ability to pull the trigger quickly banned. And confiscated.

Yeah, a motivated person can figure out how to make a gun full auto with little effort. Hell, cheap harbor freight cordless drill, a cam of some kind to depress the trigger with each rotation...done. But that's not the point.

I feel like there is a entire generation of kids (perhaps 2-3 generations) that no longer have the agrarian connection to guns that we hads. Their first introduction is playing Counter Strike on an Xbox. Their connection to guns is completely based military fantasies.

I don't want cheap, off the shelf devices available that reinforce the idea that they're little commandos.

We made machine guns (for the most part) illegal for a reason. I feel like spending political capital on bumpstocks bodes poorly for gun owners. It show a complete inability to self regulate as a group.

Yeah, because a bunch of Treasury agents had nothing to do once Prohibition was repealed. So, instead of going after bootleggers and speakeasies, we gave them the NFA of 1934 to enforce and made ATF part of the Treasury Dept. It's not like anyone but gangsters were using machine guns to commit crimes back then. And how well did the NFA help clean up organized crime? It was solely passed to keep Treasury agents employed and to justify more gov't. power and budget. Was there an uptick in machine gun violence in the US with all the bring-backs after WWII and before the 1968 amnesty? AFAIK, there has never been a documented crime in which a legally-owned machine gun was used (since passage of NFA). So how bad would it have been otherwise with people who don't obey the laws?

varmint 03-02-2018 04:53 PM

Prior to 1934 you could buy a tommy gun through the sears catalog.

How many were used in school shootings?

Crowbob 03-02-2018 05:37 PM

I don't think they had schools in 1934.

What's a fair price for a mini-14?
