Million Dollar Damage

Was out for Sunday drive and decided to stop by the local Auto-port. They had just received a boat load from Germany with many Porsche's , BMW's and Audi's.

But up in the back of the lot was what happens when the ship hits rough seas crossing the Atlantic.

Porsche Driver Experience

Here is some better news. The new 2018 Porsche driver experience cars have arrived. I think their suspension may have seen more of a Thrashing on the trip over than they ever see on the track.

Ouch. They still fix them and sell as new?

The seas don't even have to be all that rough to cause that kind of damage. Just one chain binder breaking will begin the domino effect, and pretty soon, the insurance company is getting a call to set up an appointment with an inspector.

Yep the mfg will collect from the carrier, they will be fixed up bright shiny and new and sent out to the dealers as new...they have never been titled so there will be no salvage title or record of them being smashed...Maybe they will offer a deep discount to some unsuspecting nouveau riche Chump who thinks he is getting over on the dealer....YEP a sucker is born every minute.

Reminds me of reading about the cargo ships that were sunk by U-Boats crossing the Atlantic; brand new P-40s, P-38s, P-51s, P-47s in crates sent to the bottom.

Someone tell James Cameron they’re still down there...

The liability is so huge that they will not repair cars that are damaged like this. They usually don't even use the parts. They just go of to a crusher. If a part off a damaged car ever failed on a customer's car, you could say punitive damages faster than Tabs can say Jack Robinson. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_of_North_America,_Inc._v._Gore A few years ago there was an article in Car & Driver about a ship that got caught in some extreme weather and ended up sitting at about a 45 degree angle until everything got sorted out. I believes it was a Mazda shipment. None of the cars were even physically damaged by striking another, but the company couldn't guaranty that the cars would work after being at see for so long, and couldn't guaranty that the parts hadn't been compromised. The whole shipment was crushed other than a Miata or something like that that was allowed to be used as a test vehicle at a local community college.

The Porsche sports cars are shipped with plastic pucks that limit suspension travel. They get removed at the dealer.

The Audi cars always show up down the street on uncovered transport. Porsche sports cars almost always arrive in covered trucks.

Exactly... and aside from the liability, many of those cars would be a "total" if the level of damage shown occurred in a crash.
