Fn ps90
 

So I am thinking about my next "spoon" and wanted thoughts on the FN PS90 and/or its 5.7 caliber. What do we know?

It's always seemed complicated and expensive to me. If you get one, let me know how you like it. Don't they have a 5.56 version now?

The 5.56 is the FS2000, different weapon, basically a bullpup assault rifle.

The PS90 is sort of a super short carbine, tip of barrel when held in firing position is closer to you than the tip of a pistol barrel held in firing stance. 40 rounds, meant to be used with an Aimpoint or other sight. Its kind of the modern Uzi.

I just dunno about the caliber. I am a skeptic who doesn't like new things . . . But if the round is good then that's an awful lot of firepower in a small package.

Like I need to stock ANOTHER caliber

Watch some of the videos where they shoot 5.7x28 T6B rounds right through Kevlar (Highcom) helmets, mild steel, etc. Truly WICKED stuff!

I have one and LOVE it. The PS90 is considered a bullpup rifle and carried by a number of police, paramilitary, and other such units including the Secret Service albeit with a shorter barrel. The 5.7x28 was developed as an armor piercing round and is wicked, you can buy the armor piercing rounds online but I’m not sure about legality. It is smooth, quiet as a .22, accurate, 50 round capacity, and has minimal felt recoil. The rifle is ambidextrous with really logical controls and a bottom chute for the empty casings which is very logical and clean, no more flying brass getting stuck in your shirt. Really my only criticisms is that it’s a plastic rifle so it doesn’t feel as sturdy as steel, and the trigger is a little heavy and numb. Highly recommended though, and a 57 pistol will be my next purchase.

FN is a FINE manufacturer. We have the FS2000 and while it is considered pricey compared to many variety of 5.56's, it is worth the money. Dead reliable...never a FTF or FTJ; easy to breakdown and clean and extremely easy to handle. Deadly accurate....of the "few" 5.56's in the safe, it is always the one I reach for first.
We don't own a PS90 but I have no doubt it is equally a fine firearm.

Neat bull pup but have heard the trigger leaves something to be desired. That’s why got rid of my FNS-9. Despite all my efforts, never could get the trigger to my liking.

I think the trigger is a common bullpup criticism. I find that I adjust but it’s not a 1911.

Buddy had one - neat guns, neat caliber, just didn't care for the sights it came with.

Just going on memory here, that particular spoon came out some time ago (Early 90s).
I believe it was designed and marketed as a defensive weapon. It was for for folks who were stuck behind desks, or did most of their job from enclosed spaces, like tankers, or convoy guys and girls. Kinda a very low recoil buzz-saw. It's not very long range. I wouldn't think outside of 50 yards it would be as effective. I think what they wanted was something quick handling and put a lot of teeny tiny holes very fast at close range with hardly any recoil. I would think it looses a lot of its capability being semi-auto. It was designed to be a shredder.

Great piece. Biggest consideration is having another caliber of pricey ammo to buy, but then again; you could just decide to also purchase a FN 5.7 :cool:

There is no such thing as an assault rifle.

How hard would it be to convert to the short barrel of the PN 90? Just register and pay a SBR fee?

okay. i was told the 5.7 calibre was designed to defeat bullet proof vests. but they won't sell that version to ordinary folks. so we get a slightly detuned bullet. which sort of makes you wonder, what's the point of buying one?

at least that's what i was told. anyone clearer on the whole issue?

I think Assault is short for "Stopping other people assaulting you rifle."



When I worked for Defense we always said there is no such thing as Defense. It's Offense and Counter Offense.

I don’t recall mine even having sights, I bought a simple Bushnell red dot and it’s perfect.

The key is to buy online, I think it’s normally about $.30/round in bulk.

Just a tax stamp and some paperwork away!
