ONT reset help, and Verizon rant

My ONT went out yesterday, killing my TV/internet/phone. I verified that power was getting to it. I tried to reset it per directions on the automated FiOS "helper" but was unsuccessful. I had to speak with someone.

1 hour on hold. (on my Verizon cell phone) I hung up and tried to fiddle with the ONT again. No luck. Tried to use the chat via the FiOS app on my cell phone but the chat window kept timing out between the messages and eventually as I was signing in again, the chat representative said that she was ending the chat because I didn't respond fast enough. So I called the phone number for live help again.

90 minutes on hold. I hung up.

Somehow I figured out how to request service on the website. Earliest they can come is in 4 days. I rely on the internet for work. Here's the kicker- they are going to charge me $50 just to come out, plus they say it will cost me if any repairs are needed to their 9 year old equipment.

I've had it with Verizon. I called Comcast and arranged installation. 1/2 the price of Verizon for same level of service (and I get the new fancy updated equipment). But they can't come out for 2 weeks! Next step- I look back on the Verizon website to figure out how to just cancel Verizon and find that I have to call them. But they are only available for cancellations Monday-Friday.

Ridiculous. Worst thing is I know that Comcast sucks too. But I need internet service and those are my only two choices.

BUT- being the Pelican braintrust, does anyone know any other steps to reboot the ONT? I unplugged it, I pressed the two blue buttons together for 10 seconds, tried a different plug, all with no success. The white "brick" module inside the big box has a green light that does turn on with power, but the "system" light on the front panel does not. I'm lucky that my cellphone has a hotspot so my computer can tap off that and I don't have to type all this in on a phone keyboard!

Find someone in your hood who dumped Verizon.

They’ll still have the ONT.

Swap with them.

I used Verizon for my business and it was horrible always going down and like with you they would take a week to come fix it. I switched to Optimum and not only is the service 10 times better but when I have a problem which is rare they are there within an hour. To top it off it is 1/3 the price.

I hated Optimum when I lived there.

It's been 10 years so if they've gotten better that's good.
