PS: Dropping those big anchors makes a peculiar rattling (very loud) noise that always gives me shivers. Not sure why. |
Waiting for better weather

They don't have to "push" all the ice out of the way, just break it so it can fold and slide out of the way. |
This job finished despite some lousy weather.
Finished today, might not leave till tomorrow, as I think ice breaker needed for sailing. A few more pics if you can stand it.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1521154787.jpg

Looks like you cannot unload if it's raining or snowing...
|
Does the cargo give off fumes or dust?
Do you just wear a mask? |
That’s really the way they unload bulk cargo? No conveyor or auger or anything?
BTW Mrs WD is enthralled she has never seen so much garlic powder. |
Nice pics!
Nitrogen fertilizer? |
Some products are dusty/fumey, this wasn't. Yes, can't off load during wet weather.
This "clam bucket" system is the most common, around here anyway. These buckets are ours, some ships come with there own. This was a potash product Thanks for looking, My mutt on the way to work.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1521197409.jpg |

More really cool pics, thanks for taking us to work with you. Amazing seeing the equipment down in the holds. Is most of the cargo offloaded using the clamshells, then the loader dropped in to finish the job?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1521207823.jpg Allways gives me a pause when seeing those ejecto lifeboat setups. They have them on natural gas and propane carriers etc. seems like it would be quite a ride going off the back in one of those. Probably lots better than staying aboard for the Big Bang. How full was that hold when you started?
Great pics, really enjoy them. Whole 'nother world than what I'm used to working in. Is the product offloaded to trucks or train cars or both? |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1521221617.jpg Reminds me of this thread: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/981569-any-other-scale-modelers.html Uncanny how the perspective of size and distance distorts perception. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1521221708.jpg |
Ship gone on to new business
