Correct about anchor drop to turn bow. Correct no tugs. Wind and tide never stops moving the ice. We hope a good wind moves it out of harbour altogether. Probably ice breaker not needed, but they will come if called although a wait could be possible. Ship will probably leave on their own. Small dent only.

PS: Dropping those big anchors makes a peculiar rattling (very loud) noise that always gives me shivers. Not sure why.

Ice breaker hulls climb up on the ice, then break the ice with their weight by fracturing it.

They don't have to "push" all the ice out of the way, just break it so it can fold and slide out of the way.

This job finished despite some lousy weather.

Does the cargo give off fumes or dust?

Do you just wear a mask?

That’s really the way they unload bulk cargo? No conveyor or auger or anything?

Some products are dusty/fumey, this wasn't. Yes, can't off load during wet weather.

Allways gives me a pause when seeing those ejecto lifeboat setups. They have them on natural gas and propane carriers etc. seems like it would be quite a ride going off the back in one of those. Probably lots better than staying aboard for the Big Bang.

We drop[ a backhoe in to take from the perimeter to a central spot so that the bucket operator drops down to the center and doesn't have to go to the outside edges.

How full was that hold when you started?

Trucks, we have no trains on the island where I live. Nor do we want them. We had 'em and got rid of them decades ago. Turned the tracks into walking trails.
