Stephen Hawking
|
Just saw this in my news feed and came here to report; looks like you got to it first.
I was fortunate enough to hear him lecture in person once. The man had a fascinating mind and a way about explaining complex theories in simple terms. RIP Dr. Hawking. |
No one has ever lived that long after an ALS diagnosis.
He should have left us 40 years or more ago. We should celebrate a life lived under the worst conditions and the incredible contributions he was still able to achieve. RIP, you earned it. |
Godspeed Sir.
|
Terrible loss for the world. We need more people like him - willing to achieve in the face of adversity, those who value skepticism and critical thinking over mysticism and superstition, those willing to dare to contemplate the greatest mysteries we have, etc.

How sad. A one of a kind. RIP...

“We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.”

Amazing mind and it's only fitting he passes on Pi day.. oops...and Einsteins birthday
|
We all got a bit closer to being the smartest person on the planet today.
|
But are they sure it's just not a flat battery in his voice computer??? It's not because he's quiet and not moving that hes dead you know.
(I'm sure wouldn't mind a joke, he knew the relativity stuff quiet well) |
And he died on Pi day.
RIP. |

Stephen Hawking is one of the two scientists I greatly respected. Philip Morrison is the other. I got to attend lectures by both and once had a chance to not just speak with Dr Morrison but walk alongside him and his wife at a Pittsburgh Analytical Conference. She was pushing his wheelchair and Dr M and I were chatting away for some time. He was very approachable and generous with his time.
Both will long be remembered. |
RIP Mr Hawking.
|
I did not always agree with his theoretical view of things, but I respected the intellect, determination and he made some tremendous contributions to black hole thinking. Really great stuff.
As was said, he lived far longer than anyone would have believed, sheer grit, determination and personal will. Godspeed sir, godspeed.... Dennis |

not certain this is entirely appropriate but it came to mind. I remember reading A Brief History of Time and being just awed by his thoughts

A good sense of humor also.
