Parking spot etiquette...

Have you ever thought about saving a parking spot by standing in it?

Not me. Life is too short.

There have been a few people killed in NYC while doing that.

No but people go to extreme lengths in Boston every winter to save spaces they've shoveled for their cars. Everything from camping out in spots to building fences around said spots.

There is a guy the next street over who puts witches hats style road markers on the road outside his house so he gets his very own car park each evening. I parked there one day and he got a bit snarly so I thought I'd park elsewhere.

This is what it has come to in the big city, were there is a war on driving your car.
Where I live the "effing" city planners are sacrificing street parking for bike rakes.
All the while not offering additional parking for people who perhaps don't live in the downtown area.
Which is were all the great restaurants and entertainment exist.

Thats excellent Baz

Baltimore thing is to save a parking spot with a lawn chair when you dig out after a snow storm. I could never live in the city.

suspect they may be doing a racket where they "find" parking spots for people for a fee.
And so they hog the parking spots for that purpose.

When idiots meet.

I've definitely encountered this and believe me, they did not get the space. I will explain to them that they can stand there all day but they will not be parking there unless they can go through my car somehow.

If this was on a city street in L.A. and a cop comes along, they would get a talking to and be arrested if they didn't fk off. It's illegal to "guard" a parking spot.

I'm putting a semi air horn on my PU truck specifically for situations like this.

It's not strictly an Asian thing but I have seen them doing it before. I think it's because of certain immigrants' general incompetence w the whole motorized transportation thing and maybe also because they are from countries where it's so fk'n crowded that everything is scarce and must be fought over(?)

I've seen regular old American crackers doing the same thing, though. I'd have cut the convo a lot shorter than that guy and just eased into the spot. This is why dash cams are going to be absolutely necessary in the future.

Its just not on to reserve a space like that in a parking garage. Its first come first served. Look how long they held that space without their car turning up, a piece of utter cheek..

I've done it before.
Crowded festival, find a spot on other side of road, hop out to save spot until car can turn around.
