Old papers from old shotspoon

I went to the range today to try out my 12 gauge reloads, I also took a old 410 that my dad had bought years ago. When I got home I figured the 410 needed a good cleaning and found this under the buttplate.

Looks like Charles used the easy payment plan from Sears and Roebuck. Put $7.00 down and $6.00 a month. Total $39.06.

He also bought a 1939 hunting license.

Do I save the paperwork? It’s very brittle, or just put it back.

You have a Winchester model 42 in the box from 1939 with receipt? I will give you $400 for it plus shipping. No problem I am a Federal licensee.

Oh yeah save the receipt (put it in box wt shotgun), save the box I like kool stuff like that.

As generous as that offer is I have to tell you I don’t have the box. This was stuffed under the buttplate.

I'd stick it back where you got it, but definitely keep it.

This is a clear case of Hypoxia. You have obviously flown above 10,000MSL for prolonged periods without supplemental oxygen

Save the paper, take it to someone who knows how to do it right.

If you ever sell that shotgun the next owner will be as proud of the provenance in the receipt as the shotgun...the story is cool.

Well I put it back. It’s been there for quite a while and I don’t think it will hurt it much more. I got the picture, and the gun is not mint.

Heck, I'll give you $500 for it. I'm feeling generous today. Cool find! If it were me I'd frame the receipt.

That's called "patina".

And in some cases, that can be really cool.

But not always

If it were me I'd try and make a copy of the receipt . It's a cool piece of family history . I might even consider having the original laminated to preserve it .

Even with those lofty offers, I might as well keep it for awhile. Seems they bring a little more in my neck of the woods.
