Red Green, the show
Someone posted a comment about RG on my lug bolt thread. I think I've seen 15 minutes of that show ever. What is the point? Or is that the point — no point at all?
Let me qualify myself a bit: if it's comedy, it better be funny or I just can't. Never much of a fan of British humor like Monte Python. I can laugh at old George Carlin tapes or Gallagher until the watermelon come out. Overdone that. All the guys on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour are pretty funny, IMHO, especially Ron White. I hate slapstick. I guess there's silly and there's funny and once in a while both work together. But not Red Green. |
Every clip I've ever seen of the Red Green show sucked. I don't know if you have to be drunk to watch it, or stupid, but I can't stand it.

I posted it.
It’s a Minnesotan thing, but even I didn’t get it back when I lived there..... |

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. The Tom Green show on the other hand... that was some funny chit. |
Call me a redneck hillbilly, I love Red Green. Not all skits are that good, but generally worth watching for me...not many shows make LOL !

His use of duct tape is epic

It is a Canadian show but loving it is a Minnesota thing. Maybe it helps that it comes on way late at night on public TV on Saturday nights and I'm a little loopy from a long week at work and lack of sleep. My favorite character is Ranger Bob. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVw7XECH5eM He was only a recurring character, but way back in the day I mentioned to my wife that they didn't use his character anymore. She pointed out to me that he was the lead character in my other favorite Canadian-grown, Minnesota-loves show, The Industry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycGzFlkbOiY Embarrassingly, the two shows were shown back to back, so my lack of observational skills speak for themselves. Red Green and The Industry are both CBC imports and share some characters and production. The shows aren't similar at all but you can see some common DNA.
To prove the OP's point, the entire run of The Industry is on YouTube. Episode 1, season 1 is by far the most popular and has been viewed 21,000 times. Episode 2 was viewed about 7,000 times. Mostly by me, apparently. By comparison, a run of the mill funny cat video clip has been viewed 16 million times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEkSYw3o5is I can't abide funny cat videos. |
"keep your stick on the ice" Best closing line on all the shows!
|
It's better than He Haw, which was the same kind of humor. I'm not a fan of either one.
|
I love it.
like the one where he wanted to paint a room so I got a lawn sprinkler and set it up in the room and pumped paint thru it. |
In general, more fun to talk about and quote than to watch. I could never do more than about five minutes, but everyone seems to have some idea of it.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. And for the rest of you, thanks for watching. |
"I'm a man, I can change, if I have to, I guess !"

You guys should have seen his earlier show "Smith & Smith". It was him and his wife. It played Sunday mornings about 6am. That was about the time I used to get home from partying all night and it was the only thing on TV. I think he made it in Saskatoon, in the basement of a church.
I found it funny to watch while in my about to go unconscious state. The only problem is they were trying to be serious on the show. Or at least I thought they were. :) |
The part of the RG show that always made me laugh is "Handyman Corner"...when he would work on a vehicle or rig something up (sometimes with a vehicle) as a way to accomplish some task he needed done.
It was like The Little Rascals on steroids or something. Stuff like this... <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ct1oPvmqK2w" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Ginger, and/or MaryAnn.

If she doesn't find you handsome, she'll find you handy.
Or something like that. But it's funny for late night tv programming |
