very compact sump pump needed
I need a small sump pump to drop into a tight sump in the yard. The previous owner told me he put the sump in to keep the water down during snow melt season. Its a very small sump. Maybe 2 feet deep, 8" inside diameter. At the top it necks a little, I don't think anything bigger than 7" would go in there.
Any recommendations for something I could use for a month or two? I looked for sump pumps but haven't found anything small enough to fit in there. I could put some kind of aquarium pump in there but I don't think anything small enough to fit will have enough juice to lift water out of the pit. Plus i would then need a way to control it. Are there any sump pumps small enough in the world? Any suggestions on where to shop? |
Here ya go, a pond pump - dimensions are right and can pump to over 5 feet

There is always one out there. How much water do you need to move? 115VAC? how high do you need to lift it? Does it need a float switch to run automatically? Lowes actually has a decent selection. If not what you want, check McMaster Carr.

Simer makes a complete line of sump pumps. Very reliable. I know Menards carries them..not sure about Home Depot.

A bilge pump bailed me out more than once.

yes, needs a float switch. 115 ac preferred. unknown how much water to expect. Cant be loads...
the sump is about 2 feet deep. I just need to get it to the surface and then ten feet to the top of a slope. Then it will be gone. |
This should work.

You need a sewage ejection pump unless there is some kind of filter before the sump. Go big now or go big later, but you will go big.

Here is your float switch:

A cheap pool drain pump.
Then when the frost is out of the ground dig in a proper sump pit below the frost line, so the pump doesn't freeze and install a good sump pump. Then you don't have to fork around with it every spring. |
