a compulsive liar.
damn. my high school best friend. we were inseparable. chased the same girls, stuff like that.
he started lying in high school. smaller stuff. we went to different colleges and just kinda grew apart. he went to Lubbock, i didnt. he was super popular in HS. maybe part of why i hung out with him. his lies got more elaborate. he got married and i went to his wedding. poor girl..he was telling the craziest tales. it got to the point the rest of the gang got super uncomfortable. but it's weird, nobody called him on his lies! i just ignored them. he once called me to invite me fishing on his new bass boat. his family got a lake house. i was packing my fishing rods and a mutual friend called me off..he didnt have a boat and no lake house. i often wondered how he would play if off if i showed up with a cooler full of beer and my lucky fishing hat... i think it is a mental illness. he still calls. i answer 50% of the calls. i decline family hunting ranch hunts..deep sea fishing trips. he got divorced and remarried. it is the oddest relationship i have. i KNOW he lies, but i still cant call him on it. i dont know if marriage #2 lasted.

Very weird. I have a hard time understanding. WHen I was 4, dad went back into the military, and we started moving around. Fortunately, I wasn't like some kids, so we always stayed places 2.5-3.5 years. But I didn't keep in touch with anyone once I left a place, that was it. I am in contact with a couple of folks from HS and College, but only just barely via FB.

I would not return his calls. He will drag you down in some complex lie. You loaning him money you will never get back will be part of it. Its no fun being friends with someone like that. Friends are one of the few relationships you can choose.

besides he is from a rich family..really rich. oil money..well chit..he said it was oil money..hell he could be poor. i cant handle his over the top texas accent anymore. he grew up with me, and in west texas, there is no accent. he picked it up faster than Madonna did with the british accent.

I went to school in Lubbock as well, I think I know this guy...his house on the lake is fantastic, btw.
We were on his boat last week with my fiance, Gwyneth Paltrow...we had some issues: I go, Trow, how about you think a little less about you and more about me getting some beer...right? The nerve. Anyway. He mentions an old friend, Gash, (or Hash or Bash - who the f knows) who could be an OGE (original gangster engineer), but says the guy couldn't shoot the nuts off Secretariat from a foot away with a 12 gauge. Tried to take him fishing...anyway, nice weekend. Good guy - my pal, not the Gashster. Can you guys tell I am on a GTM with twenty engineers: CAD for all my friends!

Work with a guy like this now. Has seen/done more than 5 people put together. First clue is they talk about themselves almost exclusively.

Its mental illness. Great that he's rich though. I don't think I could tolerate being around a liar like that. Or talking on the phone with him.

Picked up a couple of those over the years. It's a mental illness, and he's burning people to keep the lie going. Sooner or later, you'll get pitched for 'help' or an 'investment opportunity'.
You'll be thrown into the fire soon, too. Watch out. rjp

Randy, "the guy" doesn't sound the same as those guys.
I think he'd of given a Vash a pitch like that long ago. |

I've worked with a couple of guys that were like this. It was interesting though. Some liars seem malicious in their intent. They lie to try to get something over on you. Two of the guys that I've worked with like this didn't seem malicious. It seemed more like they were desperate for others to think they were "cool" and like them, so they exaggerated or lied to seem more interesting so you'd stay around. It was very weird, but they didn't bother me too much. I just didn't believe most of what they said, but they didn't piss me off either.

Have a nephew that always stretches the truth. Not out and out lies, but if he just told the truth it would be much better for all involved.

The thing is, lots of those guys really do believe in the free lunch- the hot opportunity, the false sense of accomplishment, and are very, very optimistic of their odds- and wish to validate it by having you going along for the ride.
I got one friend, I grew up with, from WA currently living in NorCal who was always a good 'friend'- chiropractor (until he got busted for drugs and sexual assault)-Ever since that happened, it's been pitches of one get-rich-scheme after another that anyone with 2 brain cells could see right through. Always generous, always saying the 'right' thing, and most disturbingly, attracting like-minded liars (usually felons or druggies) who, by virtue of vice follow along. Of course, they are 'successful' and have big title this, big title that and they really like you and want to 'partner' with you on one hot opportunity or another. You listen to him now, he sounds like he's got all these hot chiropractic practice plans, school this, find a clinic that, has high profile (Grateful Dead band member as patient, really?) but currently is a bustout living with his uncle, who he fights with. Certainly has a drug problem still. I know better than to believe his nonsense. You stay around people like that, and you will get stung, even if they smile the whole time. It's no good. By nature, the lies have to get more expensive to sustain the lifestyle, you can't rob at that level and expect to stay afloat, you have to pay for the last lie, and fund the next one. Always big plans, always big payouts, always big promises. YMMV of course, but for myself, don't need a compulsive liar in my life, I don't care how cool you once were. rjp
