Can anyone tell me about the Brubaker Box?

(Fun fact, that is not a wooden front bumper, it's heavy gauge steel painted to look like a 2x6, from the factory!! The '70's amiright?)

No idea, but that side mirror looks way back there.

herr_oberst 04-01-2018 07:22 PM

And, yet, that side mirror is placed perfectly... The drivers seat is a long way from the windshield!

My brother had a friend in high school that had a 2x8 bolted on his 60’s car for a front bumper. I thought it was cool looking.

Not sure why, but I like it...

The Dodge Deora has a similar kind of ultra coolness.

Is this in your garage now?

Are you also dating Valerie Bertinelli?

Living the dream of a 13 year old boy in 1973.

I bet a jet pack is on your bucket list too. ;)

None of the above, but that's certainly a weird rabbit hole you jumped down.
If you have to know, an acquaintance of mine is doing some of the work for someone who is restoring this car, and there are a lot of questions about the thing, so I brought it to the Pelican Brain Trust to see if any clues could be teased out.

(If you see Valerie, tell her hi for me. :) )

Those are pretty rare. The first minivan. What, about 50 built...with 10-15 still around?

Valerie is sorta chubby and has a cooking show now...

Well, I'm not exactly George Clooney, so there's that.

Back in the early 70s I worked as a welder building race car trailers. We had an enclosed trailer with a fiberglass body whose design was based on the Brubaker Box. The trailer was poorly built - the body leaked and went through tires like crazy - but we sold a dozen or so. I doubt that any still exist. I delivered one to Colorado Springs and went through a set of tires in 1200 miles - in an empty trailer. Had to stop and have new tires put on it before i could deliver it.

Someone had one shipped to the UK in 2013 and restored it.
