$100 project mauser

Sorely tempted, but I do NOT need any kind of project.

1916 Mauser project rifle [1916PR] - $99.95 : The Old Western Scrounger LLC.

But I'd consider building up a single shot in 6.5 Grendel or similar....

Yes, .308! These guns were/are known as the 1916 "Spanish" Mauser and were made originally in .308 caliber. According to some articles that I have read, the Spanish army had their .308 round loaded to a slightly lower velocity to reduce recoil a bit. I don't know if the guns would do well with full or hot loads or not. Probably a gun that would be best to load for using a slightly reduced load. Other than that, they are fun guns to own/shoot. I had one that someone had "sporterized" the stock and could not find another original stock with all the hardware attached. I think I finally sold the one that I had for about $150 and was happy to get that!

Best FN 308 (although this one is a Imbel made, at least FN authorized contract)

I have a Mauser built in 1898/1899 that was " sporterized " that I bought several years ago , have never shot it yet :( . I took it apart then we moved I just haven't gotten to her yet . Beautiful wooden stock with so so blueing on the barrel . Has the brass ladder type rear sight and is chambered in 7.65 caliber . I did purchase some ammo for her and will fire her some day . I was walking through a local gun show one day and he had two of these and I just thought they were cool due to the age so I bought one .

Drool...

Sigh, being a city boy I would have to drive over an hour to anyplace I can use a long gun.
