gun raffles, no..nothing..


my wife and i pick a random bakery/cafe this weekend. very good, kinda expensive. she fills out a lottery thing for a belated Easter drawing and meal. she tells me..she never puts in for these thing. she dropped this tiny slip of paper into a giant jar..half full. there were hundreds of slips of paper in there.

she won. free breakfast for two this weekend with a huge gift basket of baked goods, tea and stuff.

i wont even be in town!! she is taking a coworker. haha..

life treats me like i ran over it's dog or something..:D

About 10 years ago I won $1,000 at MacDonald's.

There was a code at the bottom of the burger box that you had to txt to a number.
About 5 minutes later I got one back informing me I had won the daily cash prize.

No almost nothing. My wife and I attended a dinner and there were door prizes. 34 people in the room, 32 door prizes. Guess who the two that did NOT win anything were? Yep, us.

I have been to 15 Porsche Parades. They have door prizes at every dinner. In 15 years the only thing I won was a kid's t-shirt and I don't have kids. Oh and some ball caps, but everyone there got a free Michelin ball cap.

No, I don't bother to buy lottery tickets. That is just a tax on the math impaired and stupid people.

i was at a charity event.

there were jars with raffles surrounding the room. the jar stuffed with paper was offering Golden State Warriors Finals tickets. i kid you not..i sought out the most empty jar. if found a totally empty jar!! .it was something like a foot massage or something. i just wanted to win something..anything. i dropped it into an empty jar. someone else must have dropped in a few, because i didnt win..i bet there were five cards in there.

my feet had to be all sore and bitter that night.

The last thing I won ended up costing a lot.

I have won prizes in contests and industry awards for excellence but my biggest winnings are
1) I got the better deal when my lovely bride said she would marry me.
2) I received forgiveness that I didn't earn and blessing that I didn't deserve when I asked God into my life.
Everything else is just stuff.

I won a plastic patio table and chairs w/umbrella at a social. Throw your tickets into a paper bag and one was drawn. Only problem was I was driving a 914 that night.

I got it all to fit by taking the table apart. Umbrella end sticking up where the roof would be. Chairs stacked in the passenger seat. Table top in the rear trunk with the legs.

About 2 weeks later we had a good wind storm and the umbrella went missing. :)

Won a pinewood derby as a elementary aged cub scout, won several high jump competitions in high school track. Wife won a trip for two to Cabo a few years ago, and I won my wife 30 years ago, and have been thankful ever since....someone has to put up with my health issues, and general crap.

Absolutely true but every time I go to the mall I see old/retired people lined up at the lottery booth handing over their cash.
I don't know why but somehow I find that really sad.

Won a Christmas gift for a company annual Christmas party.
Won a pair of Chicago Bulls tickets from a Church raffle.

Won a Porsche 914!

Many years ago I had a Porsche 914. My friend was always wanting to get one and one day I saw a raffel ticket being sold on ebay for a 914. I showed it to my friend and he insisted it was a scam. I bought it anyway for $25.

A few months later I got a voice mail stating I had won and what did I want to do....I had completely forgot about the raffel. Anyway, I had to have the car shipped from the east coast so it was not completely free. Shipping was $900 + ticket was $25 = $925 total.

Although it looked good in the photos, it was full of rust. I ended up tearing the entire car apart and listed on eBay. I made $7200 in two weeks. And that began my eBay venture - did it for many years but I'm now content with just shopping.

I won a datsun B210 once, sort of ;)

I played football in high school and one of the things we had to do every season was sell raffle tickets to help pay for equipment, trophies, etc.
For every 10 tickets a player sold he could got one for free.
Grand prize was a brand new Datsun B210. (prolly cost less than $3k back then new).

This raffle was organized by the booster club and my mom was the booster club secretary. She picked out the grand prize, paid for it, all that boogey-woogie.

I ended up selling 40 tickets so I got 4 for free.
You had to be 18 or over to win and I was only a sophomore so I put my mom's name on the 4 tickets.

Fast forward to half-time at homecoming game: the athletic director and my mom were on the 50 yard line for the drawing to see who won the car.
The AD pulls a ticket and hands it to my mom and she calls .... her name.
Everyone was all het up saying fix, rigged, whatever.
She said she didn't even buy a ticket. It was a mess that took a while to sort out, but eventually we got the car.

my brothers and I all got a turn driving that car to school, racked up a bunch o'miles over the next 10 years.

No. Its Italian. It had "frag-il-le" on the shipping crate.

I feel like I live a pretty good life. I'm not as $$$ as some of the guys here, and I may not have my schitt together the way some folks do, but I feel pretty charmed. I guess that's how I'm winning.

Do I win contests and prizes and cash? Not often.

Years ago, I did go to an ATM to get $200. When I counted the cash, I had 9 $20 and 1 $100. I considered that a win. Especially since my roommate had on multiple occasions gotten screwed by ATMs.

I get phone calls telling me I won a free trip to the Bahamas...otherwise, not much.

I forgot about one "win" back in 1976. The North Florida region of PCA had a 3 day event "Gulf Fest 76." I lived Montgomery, AL and drove down to Florida to participate. On the final night they had several drawings, and one was for a valve adjustment and oil change from a independent shop in Dayton Beach Fl. I won that. I decided driving that far for a 4 quarts of oil and a valve adjustment on a 914 was stupid. I turned it back in for someone else to win. I could do the valves on a 914 in short order and oil was cheap.
