"That happens with men over 60"
Man, I'm getting tired of hearing that.
Can't pee - "That happens with men over 60" Can't sleep - "That happens with men over 60" Can't walk or bend over without pain - "That happens with men over 60" Need to take a pill to keep the smile on Mrs WD's face Now it's something call a "Mucous Cyst." About 3 months ago I noticed a bump between the last joint and the nail on the "F-you" finger on my right hand. It grew and grew and I started catching it on things. Mrs WD did exploratory poking with a needle and bunch of stuff with the look and consistency of airplane glue came out - about enough to build a 1/48 scale F-15. She insisted I talk to my doc, who told me it was a Mucous Cyst and would keep filling up for a while and maybe go away or maybe not. Also, "That happens with men over 60." Ganglions: Mucous Cysts of the Fingers | Houston Methodist ![]() This fairly substantial bump appeared on my finger. I ignored it until I started catching it on things and making the cuticle bleed. Mrs WD drains airplane-glue looking stuff out of it about every week. ![]() It started hurting when it was pulling the skin up off my cuticle. HAPPY AGING EVERYONE!!

Try soaking it in epsom salts as hot as you can stand it, twice a day for a week.

"At your age..." Another of those wonderful phrases medical people love to use.

And once you get to 70 you can start a new list but deduct the items that you experienced in your 60's. Trust the OP gets better. It is convenient to live near a doctor and can get a quick diagnosis and hopefully a good solution. Living in the boonies has its disadvantages.

Yep,
All are well guarded secrets that men keep as they age. Then some younger whippersnapper crybaby complains because his eyes hurt, or can't pee.. And you simply say "Get used to it, you ain't seen nothing yet." And smile at him as he realizes, he's old...

Humans weren't meant to live this long (60's). At least men weren't

Well not everything gets harder as we get older, so there is that.
Besides getting odd bumps, mucous cysts and older by the day, not much else happens. Get used to it. Last edited by Crowbob; 04-08-2018 at 05:33 PM.. |

If you don't like getting older then consider the alternative...
Oh, and I've heard that guys over 60 start to complain a lot as well.

Don't drain it. Either leave it alone, or get it surgically-excised.

Data point 1: I am 68
Data point 2: I am 6 weeks post op for getting it removed. The cyst will keep coming back. No need to keep draining it. As a matter of fact, if you get it infected, the infection will go straight to the joint. I had to get this done twice because the first surgeon was a general guy and didn't know all steps in the procedure. It was filling back up within 6 weeks. Get a hand surgeon to do the removal. The cyst needs to be removed and the joint needs to be scared to close off any and all passages of the joint fluid to the area of the cyst. Done at a hospital, with Novocain. Two weeks later, pretty much back to normal. 3 weeks later 100% healed up.

It’s not easy getting used to it. Ten years ago this weekend I was in Paris running the marathon and planning to do so much more. It’s hard to accept that I can’t run anymore, and even walking is painful. It’s hard to get used to change that is so fast and dramatic. At this rate I’ll be dead in five years, with so much left unaccomplished.

Funny, I just talked to my friend (lady I've known 30+ years) on the phone in Texas an hour ago. She's 104 and said they just got another lady in there that is 101. I asked her what time they served dinner there where she's living, and she said 4:00 to 6:30. But she protested she never went to eat that early because 4:00 was cocktail time. I wanted to know if she asked her new 101 year old friend to have a drink with her, and she said her friend was a Baptist so she was afraid to ask. She can't walk too well without a walker and her macular degeneration prevents her from reading, watching TV, etc. I always feel younger after talking to her.

"Need to take a pill to keep the smile on Mrs WD's face"
Let me get this straight, you're 60, and you have a woman who has even the faintest interest in rocking sheets with you, and you are complaining. We are all declining. To expect anything else is confusion. Did the birds chirp this morning? When you were at the store, did you hear a child laugh or do something naughty? Do you still get a chance to get your hands dirty, and solve problems?

I’m not expecting not to decline. Does that mean I can’t comment on it? Say how I feel about it? I do admit to being startled by the sudden, rapid change. And, yes, to tell you the truth, the whole thing pisses me off. I have a lot to do, and this carcass is letting me down.

Geeze,
I’ll be 72 this August, retired about four years ago. When I was 60, bought my 911S Targa that took me about 7 years to restore. Sold that, bought a 996, selling that shortly and looking for another project car. Normal aches and pains, but I get up every morning and do something to keep my mind kinda sharp and my body somewhat limber. Wish I was 60 again, so for you younger geezers, stop complaining and enjoy life... |
