I have been to those "Effing" caves before, very cool figuratively, and literally !

Hugh! we passed each other when I was westbound a couple of weeks ago. I'm leaving Lincoln, CA on Saturday for VEGAS, Baby, then Havasu and Quartzsite, down 95. I have to be in Nawlins on the 30th, so it's I-10 for a while. Back to 'Bama on the 7th from there.

How did the RV fit in that cave? :)

Hugh R 04-20-2018 01:54 PM

How do I lower the resolution of iPhone pics to post under 5 mg? We’re in Mercer, PA today, were in Covington, KY the last two days visiting one of my triplet sisters. Temp is warm today 55 degrees.

Saw a wood fired indoor pool heater today at a KOA

You are about 35 miles north of us. Finally starting to get nice here . Happy motoring !

"Hey, hey, easy kids. Everybody in the car. Boat leaves in two minutes... or perhaps you don't want to see the second largest ball of twine on the face of the earth, which is only four short hours away?"

Have fun Hugh!

Bald Eagle Park,PA actually saw one!

Used to propane lasting a year, we used it up in two weeks with sub-freezing temps at night. Just barely enough for coffee this morning and the refrig last night.

The gears and chains on my bikes are filthy after 2,600 miles.

45 Year old Campy stuff didn’t bring a chain breaker so ii’ll have to improvise.

craigster59 04-21-2018 10:30 PM

How's your MPG and what do you think of the gas prices in different states compared to California?.

E38Driver 04-22-2018 12:53 AM

When we were full timing it we bought an electric heater and used their electricity instead of our propane. Just a thought.

Living the dream, Hugh! :)

Hugh R 04-22-2018 05:55 AM

10 MPG, gas is as low as $2.29 as high as $2.79.

A small electric heater is a great idea. Some newer RVs have heat pumps and fas furnaces for that very reason.

tevake 04-22-2018 05:59 AM

Ditto the electric heater. Love my Lasko tower heater.

It's quiet, has a thermostat, easy to store. I actually have two for really cold times. Rarely use the propane heaters.

Glad to see you have bikes with you, eases the feeling of being stuck where the coach is parked. With a rack on the back even light shopping is possible.

You have made good progress on your long trip Hugh.
So how is life in the road suiting the two of you, getting into a fun groove? There are trade offs, And many different ways of traveling.

Slow wander vs forced march, tight schedule vs open ended go with the flow etc. its interesting talking with other RVers along the way, seeing what others do. Many full timers hardly ever pay for their sites, they volunteer at parks in exchange for the site and hook ups, staying in place for a few months at a time.
Others like to boondock in remote spots. Using Solar to have elec, etc.
for others its just a nice way to get from place to place once in a while.
Lots of variety possible.

Do you see your travel style evolving as you go?

I've enjoyed being along for your trip! Thanks for the pics and stories,

Cheers Richard

Best upgrade you can do is to ditch the overhead old style air conditioners and install a mini-split heatpump

Tobra 04-22-2018 07:29 AM

I have a little rig for cleaning a bike chain. You put your barefoot hippie grade biodegradable solution, in the reservoir, clip it on there and turn the pedal to spin the chain through the cleaning rig while you hold it in place with the other hand. Chain lasted a long time.
