any cool ways to open beer bottles without bottle opener tool?
i opened TWO beers prying them against my hand with my new knife. i dont think i could make this a thing. the two scratched my knife handle fairly deep. i can hook a nail into the top. got me thinking. no bottle opener, what do you do?
i have gone around slowly prying with a car key, but that isnt a great habit either. |

I look for the nearest vintage car with a nice real chrome bumper, then use that to pry the cap off.

Find any surface where you can snag even a tiny bit of the beer cap on.
Hold bottle in one hand. Smack cap straight down with other hand. Works every time. Even on wood. As teens we could open beer anywhere anytime faster than using a bottle opener. |
Any key.
Just get in there and start digging... |
Pop came in bottles at my first job and we became experts at opening them without the proper tool; best way was probably the handles on a file cabinet, although modern cabinets have such thin steel, they would dent.

I always use to use the bottom of my bic lighter. Just pry it right up under the cap, and roll it . Pops right off every time .

Channel locks do great job.
I have also done the hold on an edge and slap method however that sometime leaves a little ding (don't try it on your marble counter tops.) ;) If you don't mind spilling a few drops a door lock plate works sideways. |

That's a great one as long as you don't give a schit about the surface you're opening with. |
I use my Swiss Army knife. It has a bottle opener. I have opened lots of bottles before the host hands me a bottle opener. I just hand them the bottle cap.

Any Canadian is trained in this at a very young age, basically with anything within arms reach, I could tell you but would lose my maple syrup gift card...

I use a pocket knife all the time. My method:
Hold beer by the neck with left hand, just below the cap. Hold an open knife facing away from you with your right hand. Rest the knife blade on your knuckle and put the square back edge of the knife under the cap. Roll right hand forward, using your knuckle as the fulcrum to pop the cap with the back edge of the knife. Easier than a bottle opener once you get the hang of it. |
