Zuckerburg dog and pony show

Saying you are responsible and admitting to a big mistake does not absolve one of the need for punishment. This is bs.

I logged into my FU Book account for the last time in 2010. No regrets.

The data mining he does is a multi-billion dollar industry that they get to partake in. Why would they punish him?

Those senators who are interviewing him are clearly to old to deal with this kind of modern issues.
I mean half the time they miss the points Zuckertwat makes by about a mile and then he has to dumb it down for em.

in Zucks place I would have already lost the plot when that geriatric kept asking about the idea of Facebook becoming a paid service if you wanted to get out of the targeted ads.
Zuck just said, well you can get random ads in stead.

Senator then still kept on moaning about the payed facebook and clearly did not understood the clear answer he had been giving.

As much as i think Zuck is a creepy freak, i have to admire his patience in sitting through this crap. at least 60-80% of the questions asked are absolutely pointless.

He's now saying something bout cookies, i'm sure half the senators think "oooh cookies, i hope they are almand cookies"

First one to make any sense : Facebook is a monopoly..
Now that should worry the Zuck.

This is very strange to watch.

I'm not sure that good is going to win the balance with what will come out of this.

Zuckerberg wants government regulation. It absolves him from having to make decisions about content, and after he helps make sure they are too complicated for a startup to implement, it ensures Facebook will have a government-sanctioned monopoly.

Yup. Can't think of a better way to do big brother than letting the people give it up themselves and to give it up to a single entity.

Very, VERY few people have any idea what it actually is they're giving up, what's being done with it, and how it's being aggregated with data from other sources.

Agreed, but I think that is the exact point. The average cons-mooo-mer does not have the time, energy or talent in many cases to even understand what exactly they are consenting to when they click "I Accept" on conditions for a site, any more than those same folks are not able to guess what is in food or chemical products without a regulatory require label and in language the average person has at least a chance of comprehending.

I think this needs go to a positive assent model on either a fairly regular or even case by case basis where you have to opt in to have any of your information used.

I think it also has to have positive affirmation of ID as well, personally the anonymity that the internet offers is both a gift and a great evil...

I have always said to the IT organizations I have run when it comes to policies, if my mom can't understand it, and she is 90 years old and English is not her first language, then it is too complex....do it over.

It needs to be simple, even to an old US senator...
